hey guys i have put on a high flow "ebay" intake yesterday. i also cleared my ecu (battery disconnect over night). now on cold start is doesn't idle at the normal 1500 rpm that is used to (more like almost stall then 500 rpm, almost stall then 800 rpm -- then it levels at 750 rpm). i live in pa so it is like 20 degrees tops right now.
how can i fix this?
thanks again

Did you connect all the hoses and your MAF sensor?

yea all hoses are on and tight and maf is good.
just another note - the hoses supplied are a smaller diameter than the stock ones. would that do it?
it is only on the really cold starts - good on warm starts

I think its a vacuum leak..... cracked hoses, clamps loose, fault in the intake construction...
I can tell you to change the o2 sensors but i doubt thats whats really causing your issue.
What happens when you rev the car a bit just after it cranks over...?

revs fine.....

How often do you have this cold start issue and when it happens does reving the motor keep it running or is it instant stall.

after a night of sitting it will get it....usually ok after 9 hr work day.
revving is normal during the start. no stall, just revs and returns to 750 rpm.

Hose expansion...I think you have a slight leak in a hose that opens up when the hose gets extremely cold/contracts (aka overnight).

huffer, wouldn't the cold make the hose tighter? i don't understand.

The hose contracts in the cold which stresses the hose and cause the hair line crack to form. When its warm the hose expands and the crack disappears.

they are new hoses, but for safe measure i'll put some new ones on tonight, maybe the same size as factory (current hoses are a bit smaller diameter).

if its smaller then ur stressing them over the stock fittings... so again the cold contraction could be the issue..
let us know what the result is.

hey guys i have put on a high flow "ebay" intake
The ebay kits are cheap because they use lower quality hoses...even if they're "brand new" it doesn't mean they're a quality manufacture.
You could run hot water through them and see if they leak any.

ok will do...keep you posted.

ok changed the hoses...still no change in the startup. also pressure checked the bungs on the intake pipe itself.
I am beginning to think this is a MAF thing. i have no CEL so that doesn't help.
ugh this is very frustrating.

ok so what i'm going to do is re-inspect all the hoses / clamps.
Also clean the MAF and Idle air.
Can anyone else recommend anything?

Just to verify lets do some process of elimination.
Reinstall the Stock airbox and see if you still have cold start issues..

Pay particular attention to the IAC valve. While the car is cold, it is in closed loop operation. The only thing controlling idle speed is the IAC.

i haven't had time to put the old stuff back on yet, what exactly should i be looking for with IAC?
thanks guys
