After more research, I'm come to a less than educated conclusion that the weird noise coming from just behind the tranny pan is something "loose" in the valve control body. I haven't learned yet, however, as to whether not the valve control body for the 4EAT can be switched out with a new or used part. Can it? Also, are there parts within the valve control body that could break or come loose that create a staticky whirr that comes and goes as the car is turned from left to right?

from the symptoms your listing i severly doubt it is your valve body.

The valve body can be replaced by dropping the pan, removing the filter and all the electrical connections, and removing the bazillion bolts that hold it in. When replacing it, use a new gasket, make sure both surfaces are prestine and totally flat with no nicks or gouges, and use a good torque wrench to install the bolts in the correct pattern. If you don't, the valve body will leak or warp and cause all sorts of trans problems, potentially failure.

I am somewhat dubious that your valve body is causing a noise, but I don't know the full story.
