OK so to make this simple here is the software that Subaru dealerships use for their parts look-up.

Before we begine please visit Opposed Forces - Subaru Electronic Parts Interchageable Database (http://opposedforces.com/parts)
Opposed Forces is a free interchageable parts site devoted to Subaru USDM/EDM . Its quick and 98% correct during my 4+ years using it.

SLi Thread = viewtopic.php?f=14&t=15486 (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=15486)
http://sl-i.net/FORUM/ (https://imageshack.com/i/0v1yl1p)

Now moving on to FAST-2

Its called FAST-II and below are links to download it. There is also a tutorial on how to install the cd, run the program, and use the search feature.

http://sl-i.net/FORUM/

Before you start please read this:

1) This does not run on 64-bit Operating Systems. .. Deal with it..
---- VMware / Windows XP on Windows 7 64.
---- Or.. Microsoft Virtual PC (XP-Mode) works with Pro/Ultimate but there are guides to modify the install for Home Premium
2) This does not work for "most" CDM/Canadian VIN's... However that being said.. out of 15 CDM VIN's that I put in only 1 came up...
3) No BC / Gen 1 available
4) You can do either VIN search or MODEL search.

Download Subaru FAST-II (Parts Department Software)

Select the category you would like to view. You can also choose multiple categories if you want.

Select the "Illustrations" option from the tool bar.

http://sl-i.net/FORUM/ (http://img407.imageshack.us/i/u5diagram.jpg/)
WOW look at the diagram.. :smt015

http://sl-i.net/FORUM/ (http://img839.imageshack.us/i/u6selectqtyenter.jpg/)
Move the "LEFT & RIGHT" keys to select the part you would like. Once you hit Enter you can set the Quantity (QTY) and then press enter.

http://sl-i.net/FORUM/ (http://img641.imageshack.us/i/u7selected.jpg/)
Once selected it turns RED!

And now the MAGIC button (F5) or in the toolbar "Translate" which is some SUBARU secret code for PART NUMBER!

http://sl-i.net/FORUM/ (http://img638.imageshack.us/i/u9done.jpg/)
And there you have it! A freaking part number for a EZ30D seal :smt017 You can see how this system works.

Parts Description Search.
I'm not going to go into much detail.. The system works like this: 1st Category is the main search. 2nd is to specify and 3rd is if you need even more detail to describe your search.

So in this example I will do something as simple as 1st Category "HEAD" and this will give me all the parts associated with the word 'head'. So items like bolts, valves, rockers, etc. will come up in the search..

Another example: 1st Category "BRAKE", 2nd Category "PLATE" and this should bring up a list associated with Backing Plates.

http://sl-i.net/FORUM/ (http://img607.imageshack.us/i/p1partnumbersearch.jpg/)
Select F3 or Toolbar "Part Name"

http://sl-i.net/FORUM/ (http://img43.imageshack.us/i/p2category.jpg/)
Categories.. Type in what you want. Keep it simple.. BRAKE / HEAD / RADIATOR

http://sl-i.net/FORUM/ (http://img40.imageshack.us/i/p3codesearch.jpg/)
All items associated with the word "HEAD". Left click to add QTY. Right click to subtract QTY.

http://sl-i.net/FORUM/ (http://img6.imageshack.us/i/p3chooseacode.jpg/)
Part highlighted. If you want a parts diagram of your item, click the "illustration" button (1). If not you can click "Translate" (2) and you're done.

http://sl-i.net/FORUM/ (http://img607.imageshack.us/i/p4illustration.jpg/)
Parts diagram: Your part is highlighted in "GREEN" and again you can move left and right and choose a part.

Done :-D

The Japanese software totally works perfectly. But until I get a model code (full, it doesn't accept partials) for a 1st gen, I cannot confirm that it doesn't have the stuff for them. Without my books, I can only write in all but the last two characters: BC5A4??

Considering that G11 and G12 are Imprezas in the J-spec program, I doubt it.
I just tried it anyway, and it doesn't exist....

And that isn't the model code I was talking about....

I don't know either but I do know that my local dealership is dropping support for vehicles >20 years old in their software - ie. they have to refer to the paper copy parts list for my 91 Legacy starting this year

elislider
04-02-2012, 07:19 PM
in a pinch, i'm ok with that, though i do use the parts referencing frequently on opposedforces.com -- but i also have dealer versions of all the physical paper manuals for 95-98 legacy, 93-99 impreza, and a few others in the 00+ range.

after much fiddling I was able to get one version of FAST2 installed. its tricky to use and I get lost easily in the program, but it does have lots of parts info not available on opposedforces.com

now i just need to get parallel installs for USDM/JDM/EDM :)

when it comes to the "disc #" part (first digit of the filename) do you need a disc 1, a disc 2, and a disc 3 (example, the most up to date version of each)? or do you just need the newest disc? it would make sense they would release a disc and update it for a while, then release another disc, update it for a while, then another, etc in iterations. but idk if thats how it works. i guess my question is: what is the significance of the "disc number" digit?

what i have is the english version of the software loaded up with EDM and USDM isos (at least, they appear to be loaded, havent done any VIN lookups yet) and then i have the japanese version of the software loaded up with the JDM ISOs, and i tested a jdm vin and it works. however, i have no idea what i'm clicking on really, because the japanese app is all japanese (and its actually not even japanese for me, its just random unicode symbols and junk because apparently my windows wont display japanese properly)

so the question remains, is there a way to look up the JDM isos in the english program?

Hello chuckthefuk,

I use the fast 2 for localize the compatible parts in USA. My VIN code is: JF1BM5LC2BG-023799

3. Switch Assembly Combination Turn Dimmer (whit Fog lamp switch and Auto function) - 83195AJ060 (Japan code)

4. Sensor Sun Load or Automatic Light sensor: 73730AG010 (Jp) or 84088AJ000 (USA) - See: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.p ... 95473.html (http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/anyone-seen-tsb-12-136-12-automatic-headlight-sensor-repair-195473.html)

I fear to buy this parts and dont work in my car because the wire whip.

Any chance In getting the part numbers for the s401 rear brake backplates? Chances are slim they'll be on there but worth a shot. Tried using it myself but me and my computer can't read Japanese.

Andy_Mac The S401 brake backplates are STI part 2670466000 and 2670466010, however they are restricted parts and cannot be purchased without proving that you own an S401.

Andy_Mac
02-12-2015, 04:39 PM
Cheers. Yea had heard they are restricted but was hoping partsouq might still have them. Appears not though. Are those standard subaru style part numbers? Don't they normally always have letters in thrm aswell?

rkrenicki
02-12-2015, 05:21 PM
They are STI part numbers, but for some reason do not have the ST prefix that most other STI parts have..

You *might* have some luck with japanparts.com, they seem to be able to get some restricted parts for some models, so perhaps they have someone who works there with those models. It cannot hurt to try.

Andy_Mac

Yea they list their brembo conversion kit as having the rear backing plates so unless they have custom ones made they must be coming from sti. Would just grab that if the price wasn't horrendous.

On a side note, is there any way of getting the jdm cd's to work in english. Have us working in us program and jap in jap program but can't interchange to get jap cd's in english. Surely there's a way since the guys at subaru dealerships can get around it without too much trouble?

I can ask in-laws in Japan if my owning an S401 permits me to order through them... but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I had forgotten that STI sells the Brembo kit for the BE/BH. Its retail price is 615,600¥.. or just shy of $6000USD. It says it does come with the backing plates, but I cant seem to find them on Japanparts.

The backing plates by themselves are 18,000¥ each.

I have tried to do this a half dozen times, all without success. I have a virtual machine set up with a copy of Windows XP in Japanese just for the Japanese FAST application, as even running the application on an English version of windows does not render everything correctly.

The general market (which includes Australia/New Zealand) models are much more similar to Japanese models, so their FAST will list many "Japanese" parts.

I need to seriously update and simplify this whole thread. I am putting it on my COVID "to-do" list.
