Mother nature decided to have her monthly PMS storm in WV again, and dumped 6+ inches of the wettest snow I've seen this year on the local area, 3 out of 4 roads to my home town were closed due to accidents (that's a first) and the "officials" asked people in the surrounding counties to stay off the road due to the crappy conditions and lack of plowing ability.
Anyways I've been driving during the beginning of the storm. I came home parked and decided I didn't want to go out due to the other idiots on the road AWD or not.
I had no problem going anywhere my snow tires and AWD conquered all, but apparently my new neighbor and her AWD Jaguar X-type don't like snow, as in couldn't get out of the parking lot. She had all seasons with plenty of tread but the Jaguar AWD is only AWD after you get going past 10mph, under 10mph and it's a RWD car. I laughed very hard before I went out to help. Seriously why put and awd system in place and not use it under 10mph when you need it to get going in the snow
in other words yea subaru AWD

I love PMS snow storms.. The city turns into a Ghost town.. all you see is my Outback blasting down the road and the convoys of Subaru and the brave few who think their 4x4 will hold up :smt011

the same can be said for all the pseudo awd systems that other manufacturers use that's essentially a FWD system with maybe 50% getting sent to the rear only on certain conditions...
Yeah its amusing to see a car basically crawl through snow that supposedly above the actual ground clearance :)

We got hit with the PMS here on Long Island. We got about 14 inches of sloppy snow. It makes me remember why I love my Subaru as much as I liked my DSM.

Oh yeah I was also driving my evo IX MR about 5 am when no one was on the road, thought I was a WRC driver for a sec..

Subaru and snow just go together. Although, it shouldn't make you overconfident. The car still has to obey the laws of physics.

Yup.. take offs and control is what makes a Subaru a Subaru, however you still brake like any other car... momentum's a bitch :-p

yeah I learned I was still physic's bitch when i totaled my first vehicle (86 nissan) in the slush, rolled over once and drove it home man that truck was a juggernaught (I miss my tiny truck)
so even with snow tires and awd I don't try to push my luck, but know i can go if i have too

That was one of the things that really drew me to Subaru for an AWD car (aside from the simplicity). The AWD is super simple, but functions so much better than other systems that are way more technically complicated. Just wish it had LSDs in the front and rear so it wouldn't become 2WD under certain situations (1 front and 1 rear tire)
