No I'm not crazy :D However I am thinking of doing this for competitive reasons, namely auto-x. Smaller wheels = less weight + smaller diameter = better acceleration + stopping + turning.
The 91 rotor is a 10.1 and the 97 GT is a 10.5 up front, the rears are the same.
Looking at http://www.cars101.com/subaru_legacy_archive.html it does appear that the '92 L came with 10.9's and ran 14 steels (if that's not a typo)

No, the BD L's have smaller rotors and calipers and come standard with 14" rims. The GTs have bigger front rotors, plus bigger calipers. 15" will fit though.
In autoX I woulding be worrying about getting tiny wheels, thats drag racing tricks. Go for smaller and stiffer sidewalls. Theres no way in hell Id trade my WRX rims for my 14" stockers on an autox course.

that's a typo. The 92's had the same brakes as everything else. The other concern is that the 14" steelies are only 5.5 inches wide, which really limits the amount of tire you can put down. Most 15" (x6") oem subbie wheels are as heavy as wrx wheels, which are the real value. Going to a 45 series tire on your 16's would give you a decent gearing and feel advantage though.
I'm pretty sure you bd gt guys can get wrx caliper brackets and rotors and run them with your existing calipers.

I wouldn't do it, primarily because of sidewall flex.
Tires should be cheaper though, but are the tires you want made in a 14" size?

If you've got both cars jack them up and put a wheel on front and rear. But, would this violate the rules for your class?

We do things differntly here so I'm not concerned about "class". Yeah, I figured the easiest way is to just put them on and try however its still rather cold out and the group buy on tires are coming in a few weeks time.
