View Full Version : Can 95-01 impreza headlights fit in a 98 legacy outback?

I found a nice set of projector/regular headlights on ebay for the BG5 which is a very close cousin of my 98 legacy BD5. My question pertains to the headlights, and whether I can get a pair of impreza headlights to fit with not a lot of gap in the hood or fender sides. Visually, it looks like it might work, which is why I'd like someone with some knowledge to post up.
Also, I searched, but if you happen to already know of a thread, I'm happy to follow a link (please don't hyperlink me to hardcore gay porn  )
Thank you

Anything can be done with enough time, money and patience.

That's another good point. Can someone elaborate on what he meant by the body lines on the corners being different? I've never looked that closely before to notice a difference.
Edit:
I just looked and the only difference looks like there is a angular corner vs a rounded off corner.
If that's all it is, a dremel will solve that and an impreza front grill could be used as well (or the OEM one modified).

Well, for starters the hood on the Impreza is narrower, and the grille is a different shape. The Impreza has a two piece light design from factory, whereas the later 2nd gen Legacy gets a one piece design.

This guy did a hood and bumper swap, too.

Lastly, having owned an impreza, the OEM lights to get are the clear ones from an RS (99-01?). The glass ones look nice and never yellow but the output is crap. The plastic RS ones improve the beam pattern and visibility tremendously.

this thread makes no sense, you said you found headlights for a BG5 that you liked... why don't you just buy them? why are we talking about imprezas? BG = legacy wagon
and no they wont fit with out the rest of the impreza body parts..

You read the thread title before clicking, yes? My apologies that the misnomer threw you so entirely
And that's all I needed to know.
Mike-tracy: those are the same headlights I saw. I just want to figure out a way to retro fit them into the legacy housing. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard, but at $150 a pop, it's an expensive mistake to make.
