All the items you listed are general... besides the lime green interior??

What is your goal / direction / outcome you wish to have?

Daily Drive / Street / Drag / Auto-x / etc?

Stiff / Comfortable / Whatever?

I can give you over $25,000 of ideas but whats the point with your vision..

the direction i am going to is a car i can use day today with a family but also be a one of a kind (the line green paint on the inside). i want to have the ability to go fast and beat off little Hondas and stuff. im relly trying to do something to this outback that not many people have done. but the place i need help is my little 2.5 i need to get more horses out of her but not really to sure where to go

chuckthefuk
02-12-2011, 01:16 AM
You will always beat FWD off the line... however second gear could use some help...

Stage1
-light weight pulleys
-cold air intake
-equal length headers... but most get unequal length for the boxer rumble
-2.25" exhaust
-hi-flow catalytics converter
-msd coil pack
-plugs / wires
-grounding cables

Stage 2:
-delta cams
-port and polish heads
-upgraded head gaskets..
-throttle body thermal spacer
-intake manifold thermal spacer

Stage 3:
built long block.... $$$$

Stage 1/2/3 clutch and Flywheel... to handle the abuse...

but in the end N/A EJ25* engines are just not even close to turbo setups.... The key to gaining preformance from any mod is a proper computer (ecu) tune. You will need a piggy back system that can adjust the way engine handles modifications to air/fuel and timing.

Cheers and browse the forum.... lots of projects and info to be found.

thank you so much that is going to help me out a lot. do you have a web site or store you like to go to that will help me get all the things i need ? oh and i need help finding coil oves for the wagon. nit seams that there really isnt anything out there for my car. but could i use coil overs from a wrx wagon on mine or can i find them somewhere ?

The best thing for you to do to find out products that fit your car is to search through the members rides section. Check out this post: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=20172 (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=20172) and look through all the BH's. most of them will have a mod list in the first post to show you what mods they have done.
And WRX coilovers will not work for your car. Alot of the 3rd gen owners on here are using BC Coilovers or Tein but there are also a couple other brands that make some specifically for your car.

thank you a lot. that helped me find what i needed. i am about to get my head gaskits done in a few months. i want to get some new pistons so i will be ready when i get a turbo. what elso should i do to my motor when i have it out and taken apart ??

chuckthefuk
02-14-2011, 10:16 AM
Complete ARP stud kit.
Replace the oil separator plate next to the rear main seal. oh and if its leaking replace the rear main seal.
Also all your front and rear seals.. cam, crank etc..
valve cover gaskets..

2002outback
02-14-2011, 02:23 PM
 i see the $$$ adding up lol. thank you for that. now i just need to go get the parts for all of that. will auto zone or just any auto parts store have all of that stuff in stock ?? or should i get it all of the web? i have been searching around all ready for thous things and i keep sketchy sites. what web sites do you use for your parts ? took my subaru in the snow saturday night and it was amazing even in 15" of snow i could do 40 :smt026

chuckthefuk
02-14-2011, 02:31 PM
seals should be OEM.
Headgasket if u want thicker should be "Preformace Aftermarket like Cometic"
ARP studs can be ordered through AutoZone I believe or performance imporvements.

Reason can get almost anything so PM if you want a killer deal.

And yes this will all ADD UP! Your asking for a N/A build with results.. Thats not cheap task this is why someone suggest a turbo swap which is pricey but in the end offers a good base line with room to expand.

-Chuck

02-14-2011, 02:46 PM
so if i i just fix my head gaskits and switch out the parts you have told me to will it be ok to throw i turbo on it? i want this to push up to 500 if i can. thats why i have been thinking about the piston chang out to handle the abuse i will put on it. but i have to take baby steps first so what should i do to preper for the turbo(s) ?

i think i am going to take you up on that offer for the parts. just have to save up a little more befor i can get them. thats why i am waiting for 3 months to do all the work at one time

chuckthefuk
02-14-2011, 02:52 PM
NO!

I cant answer all your questions.. You have to understand 500 HP/AWHP is a high number even for 2.5 sti's with $$$$ thrown at it.

Check out 25rs.com and nasioc.com for N/A turbo builds.. There is so much work envolved.

Pistons, rings, con rods, crank, bearings, oil pump, up pipe, down pipe, engine managment, etc.. Your asking for a shitty motor to be built into a fire breathing sti.. its not going to happen for less then $8000 and then some.

yeah that is a little high. im just really trying to prove one of my buddys wrong because he says that you cant make the outback a fast car. i say it can be done even thou it is a heavy wagon. i am really just need helop because i am new to subaru. i am not to sure what to do. i cam from a nissan family (a lot of my friends and family have older nissans) i can rebuld you a datsun 240z motor in a day and have it push more than before. so that is where i have been hidding for the last few years i dont know everything about them but i know enough and my buddy that i bult the 240/260z's with helped me understand everything about them. i really need to make the 2.5 i have a lot stronger and a little fast so that i have something to be proud of that when i pull out of my drive way i get that feeliing in my arms that i have made the machine i am in. sorry for asking so many questions i feel bad about it. really just trying to learn about everything i can.

chuckthefuk
02-14-2011, 03:47 PM
Tell your buddy to go suck an egg.

Those L-series Nissan motors are garbage even with upgraded carbs.. Thats why people drop SR20's and RB2** motors in them.

Same goes with your outback

Heres some insiration.. My personal fav Gen 3 sti

I laugh at people that say that to me. It shows a lack of intelligence if all they can do is cuss me.

Your enthusiasm is great, but you run your mouth/keyboard before you listen... Chuck and the others here are saying MORE than you are reading... and that's the key. Unless you have very deep pockets, or are extremely smart AND handy with tools, you will not blaze a new trail. You may find a trail that hasn't been run much and refine it, but you can see plenty of examples of great cars built with a purpose.

If your purpose is just to beat Honda's off the line and have a comfortable car for the family, then you really don't need to do much at all.

make it into a hard parker. get some k-sport 36 fully adjustable coiloveers, get some nicer rims, tint, paint. Make it look nicer and turn heads before you tear her apart and try to make it fasteer, just my opinion.

orens writes back-
that is an inside joke at my work that i use with friends. its something we laugh at because we work at a tire shop and sometimes the people we have to deal with drive us crazy and that is all way wont to say back because we are done trying to help them. but i agree with you to the fullest extent.

i do not have that deep of pokets but i am preatty good with my hands all ihave been doing is working with cars since my freshman year of high school. i am not saying i know everything. there are somethings that is know more about then others. like i know a lot about wheels tires and brakes along with torque specks but that is because well i work at a tire shop lol. i am trying to learn but not many people like to be teachers. i do listin to everything people write down because after i read it i write it down also in my notes for the car than i reserch everything about the parts or componints that people have told me to change fix or buy.

i really do not want to come off as an ass hole or someone that thinks they know everything . i have just been really happy/exsited because i have been doing so much with my car that i do get ahead of myself and run my mouth/ keyboard a little faster than i should.
thank you for running that past me thou. i am here to talk to others with a dream close to mine, not to anger or frustrate people trying to help. thank you for the ryply hope to talk to you very soon

ya, the blue wagon was not all that special, used to be a postal delivery car and was always coming into my work for maint ( used to work are Carr Subaru), what you have now is better. My wagon was the ultimate hard parker lol, other then a Weapon R Intake, headers, radiator shroud and the typical sway and strut bars she was all cosmetics. But a nice looking car on the outside turns more heads then a fast car you see mobbing on the road in my opinion.

Lol no worries

As for the scoop, I bought an 04-05 STI Scoop, and shaved the mounts off, and then used the exisiting holes and bolted it down, then cut the hole in the hood for it. I never got around to sealing it to the hood. Its off the car now, I like the flat OEM hood more. But my friend around where I live is buying it and the hood, and Im going to help him seal it and all that.

And its cool that my Outback is an inspiration for someone. :smt023

:smt023
If you have any questions let me know

yeah i got the 14 sti hood scoop too. i am going to paint my whole car matteblack so i think it will look pretty good. what more have you done to your car ? is it lowered ?

it is looking good i want to take the outback badges off. and the top rails too. what did you do to take them off ? was it easy? over summer i am going to get cusco coil overs. they make coil overs for our outbacks. and as forthe hood scoop i am going to wait to put it on cuz i think it wil look funny with out it being lowered. haha the onlythingnotstock on my car is my STi 6 speedshift knob lol ( it gives me 10 more house power !!) jk

badges are easy to take off, get a hair dryer, some fishing line, bottle of windex and some goo gone. Heat up the badge with the dryer, use the fishing line to run behind the badge to seperate it from the glue, wipe area with windex to clean off the dirt that is stuck behind the badge, use goo gone and dryer to remove the remaining glue. Takes maybe 20 minutes max.

i dont want to color match because i want to keep the outback two tone look plus wheni lower it and get the blue or black mudd flaps it will pull it together really well. i like the lifted look too but its not for me. at least not on my outback. next meet i go to with my car it will have the paint done on it and look fresh. than i will look like i belong in the group photos lol

when you guys see it lowered you guys will love it. its just something hard to in-vision. there is a lot more that will be done to it that will pull it together with the lowered look that will make it look very aggressive
i am also painting my wheels matte black to match the bumpers and plastics plus the windows will be tinted so it will have a whole new look to it! i will get rain guards for the windows and some other small things to pull it together. (i have a vision and i am going to make it happen)

ok guys so its set in stone. in about 4 days when i get the wagon back from the shop i am going to drive it back to my shop at home. get it up on 4 jack stands and take off the wheels and tires. have my dad paint my wheels (which are stock 00-04 outback wheel) while he is doing that i am going to wire my wagon up for the new stereo stuff i got (12" mtx sub with a 500 watt 2 way amp). than after i get that set up i am going to mask off the wagon and get her ready for the new paint. i am going to use duplicolor matte black. i am going to paint everything that is bage (the color). also i am going to semi black out my fog lights. ( i am going to do a light coat so it looks black but i dont lose any light coming out of it). after everything drys over night i will take it out for a test drive ( just because i miss driving it) and than go take it to have the tint get done so it gives it that whole blacked out thyme.
what do you guys think?
i am also going to lower it on legacy springs.
there is a lot more that i want to do just that is what i am doing in the next few days :)

:smt017 If you even "lightly" black out the cover, you're essentially reducing it's output. Why not heat it up, take it apart and black out the inside?

i didnt know you can do that with the fog lights. how should i do this ? use the oven like every one else or is there a different way ? plus i dont want the wife to think we are eating fog light for dinner lol

Get HID's and call it a day.

The other way is a direct obstruction, and the way we suggested is more or less in the background. Your car, your call.
