H6 Rear LSD (2002 outback) fit in 2000 Subaru Legacy L

Hey guys,

I was looking at a LSD from a wrecked Outback but I wanted to make sure that it would fit in my Legacy.
The 2000 Legacy L Sedan auto has a 4.11 final drive.
I am also pretty sure that the 02 Outback Wagon auto is 4.11 also, but since it matches up to the EZ motor I wasn't sure if it would be the same.

Physically yes it will fit. I can not find the 4EAT FD info for your car but here are 5MT models that came in 4.11

match the code on the bellhousing of the transmission to make sure what FD it is. The SPDA site only lists manual trans.

Could be 4.44 as a 2nd gen OB Auto.
Could probably pull out the LSD unit and plug it into yours.

The 01-04 EZ30D-Outback has a 4.11 final drive, according to a quick search on subaruoutback.org.

I used an 00 outback rear diff in my 91 Legacy, and other than the studs on the back plate being a too long (I grabbed the correct length studs at the dealership), it was a direct match. I'd imagine you wouldn't have any issues since you're grabbing from the same generation.

But isn't there a difference b/t manual and auto, with the auto being 4.44 and manual 4.11? Or is this not the case in this particular search with these model and trim lines?

The H6 is special ;) Plus if you think about it in, in the US, Subaru tends to put low final drives in their more powerful cars, Eg. WRX & Sti, Spec-B, SVX, etc. Course there's some exceptions to that as well.

Heavy cars with heavy motors need more torque build towing speed. So the final drive is raised to accommodate the need for torque on demand.

Also to add a bit of info higher RA spec Impreza's used 4.44 for quick acceleration and end up with a crippled top speed, but who needs top speed when your turning.

Yeah, I'd love to get a 4.44 tranny from a Forester XT. Out accelerates a USDM STI off the line, Plus who really needs to go 100+ on the streets, lol.

And a question, is 4.44 a "lower" final drive than 3.9? That's always confused me.

Way to much coin.. get a jdm v.5 trans less then $400 not including diff.

Also I agree with the high-speeds... pointless unless you enjoy cops and court houses.
