View Full Version : Installing Bosal Replacement Exhaust: What's Wrong/Missing?

I'm replacing my very worn out factor exhaust on my 1996 Legacy L. I ordered a Bosal cat, mid, and tailpipe but by the looks of things there is no way the cat is going to bolt up to the midpipe. The mid has the socket part of a ball-and-socket fitting, but the back of the cat has a flange and then a 1/2" section of pipe sticking out of that. What's the deal? Is there a section of pipe that I'm missing here? I don't know what to do at this point. I really don't want to send this back since it's all here, so if one of you knows what's wrong, let me know.

Here's pics of what I have:

Back section of the cat:

Front section of the midpipe:

The two sections together so you can see the problem:

On the car, there is a section of flex pipe that I don't currently have. Is this what I need from Bosal to complete my setup?

I think you need a donut gasket and the bolts with the springs on them. It won't connect up tight because the exhaust shrinks and expands, that's where the donut gasket and the bolts with springs come in. But I may be wrong.

Got a part number by any chance for something that will work with the Bosal setup?

Go to your local parts store, they will help you get the right stuff.

Yeah I found it, it just wasn't turning up on most of their websites until I found a picture of what I was after on Amazon's site, then went scouring the local store's sites just searching for exhaust gaskets in general. O'Reilly has them and they're right nearby, so I'll get it all tomorrow.

I assume the bolts are nothing more than just longer bolts with springs that go between the flange and the nuts? If so I can just get that stuff from work if the store doesn't sell it as a set.
