Where can I purchase a new short block EJ20

I have an EJ20 that has blown the bottom end ( common yes) and I am thinking about a brand new short block..

Does anyone know the best place to buy and at what money..?

Its a JAP import BG5 (1997 Twin Turbo)

Dealer might sell you a fresh short block if they have any left.

Purchasing a replacement block from a dealer is wallet rape.
Purchasing a WRX/STi EJ20 replacement block from a Japanese importer is more realistic. (Less than 70,000 km on the motors when pulled)
Purchasing a EJ255/257 from a US forester xt/05+ legacy gt/06' wrx/04+ sti is a great upgrade but more $$ then the imporer method.

How much $$$ do you have to play with and what is your time frame? Is preventative upgraded maintenance something you are willing to consider?

I know it just doesn't make any sense to me since machine shops and used parts are common in my area.

its one of those things if the replacement item is almost 50% of the cost of the car why bother unless its got sentimental value I guess.

thanks for your comments and opinions... I guess there are various reasons why I am considering the costs of the project, but I do have a very original low mileage GTB and I need an engine for it..

Costs for a full rebuild on my old engine including new crank would be circa $6000 and yes on an old 1998 Wagon its just not wise..

I have looked at the option of buying a second-hand complete engine from Tiger up there in Canada...and im tempted to buy and take a chance.... :shock:

I can get a compete EJ20 for about $800 pus transport costs to Europe...say another $400.

I am just not sure if I am taking a bigger risk buying a motor with no warranty etc...

I know its risk...and I have to calculate this to some degree

Shoot them an email explain your situation they will quote you a bit less then what the online price is and you can get all the little bits from OEM to race from them.

Umm...what??

Unless you are using Cosworth parts, there is no way a rebuild will cost you that much.

I just want to mention that when you have damage to the lower end there is a good chance that the shrapnel has damaged the cam journals, and turbo etc. Most of the engines that come thru the shop with a broken rod or spun bearing or what ever needs work on the heads.

Wtf are you high on?
I work for a subaru engine shop, and there is NO subaru engine that costs that much to rebuild with OEM parts. A STi long block with race bearings forged pistons etc on runs about $3700
