Over the summer I was on my way to work and saw a modded WRX and an RS sitting at the local Subaru dealership owner's house. I talked it over with my parents (seeing how I already had a GT sedan and an L wagon sitting at my house) and we agreed to buy a newer car with less miles to use for college. Went to the dealership the next day to find out the WRX was automatic and ended up convincing the owner to sell the RS.

The car already had 5% rear tint and 20% front tint, professionally done, as well as a full sound system (headunit, speakers, tweeters, all amped). Upon getting it home I immediately installed a front strut bar, Hella Supertones, Blue interrior lights, moved my possesions into the car, and gave it a good wash. Modding stopped there until recently. I purchased some Hella foglights, Rally Armor mudflaps, JDM blue I badge, Kartboy shift knob, JDM side markers, JDM front spats, WRX sway bar, dual tip stromung catback, and 8000k Hid kit.

Currently the foglights, shift knob, I badge, and HID kit is installed and this weekend we'll be installing the side markers, spats, and sway bar. Waiting on the stromung to come in the mail and going to pick up the headers in about 2 weeks or so. The mudflaps scraped the pavement too much so it was best to part with them.

The RS is one of my favorite Subies, and if they weren't so rare I would have one right now. I looked for one for about 6 months before I decided to get a Legacy.
But yours is looking clean, :smt023 awesome car.

sorry Chuck, had it in my head that it was for subarus in general and other brands in members rides II

On another topic, ended up wrecking the RS on the way home. Tire came off the bead and thus I spun around, slid backwards at about 60 mph across the highway, then had the front end swing around and contact a rock hill. Only damage I saw was the tire off of the rim and some slight scratches in the bumper. Still got it out being on an incline in 3 inches of snow and with 3 tires..Gotta love good old Subaru. I'll post up pictures on sunday along with an update.

I looked for forever as well, sometimes if your lucky a guy will drive up to WA from some weird state and offer it up for only 6k because they don't know how rare they are. I Love the 2.5 RS

I bought the car in June without a warranty. Just got home from the garage and they said that the tire is perfectly fine, it just slipped off the bead. $12.72 later I drove home.

So today we installed a wrx rear sway bar and clear side markers. unfortunately the spats didnt line up right?? so we traded them for a rallitek rear diff skid plate. I probably wont install it so once I snap a pic it'll show up in the classifieds. I also ended up buying a driver wrx seat from 2002-2003 for $25 that will have to get installed.

Wow, i love it. As well i am jealous too! I would of much rather had one of these.

On a side note, ditch the HID kit until you can actually retrofit projectors. Simply putting in an HID kit into the stock housing actually makes the lighting worse and blinds oncoming traffic.

In my opinion they increased the ability to see at night but havent seen if they bother people or not. I do have projectors but no spare crystal headlights to retrofit.

Love the looks of those, theres a guy not too far from me selling a silver one just like yours for 5800. I have cash to buy it and could even keep my Legacy, or sell to recoup some money. But Im passing this up, Ill probably regret it later.

And I agree about ditching the hids till you retrofit the headlights, especially with 8000k. I refuse to get hids until i do that, and a friend on mine thinks Im crazy. Iv explained several times how much better you can see with and that they dont blind other drivers but he still argues against them

I'm not saying that projectors with HID lights wont increase visability and not blind other drivers, I'm simply just saying that HIDs without projectors helps me see at night and probably blinds other drivers. I don't face that much traffic so its not so much of a problem. I'll retrofit as soon as I get a spare set of headlights to do so

Miner update: I got a passenger wrx seat and rear wrx seats installed today but need to modify some old rails so i can install the driver seat. That won't get done til wednesday so for now I have to look at my nice new seats without the chance at using them lol. Stromung catback is sitting at my college which will be picked up monday and installed wednesday

another update: We realized that the stromung exhaust was modded for a turbo exhaust and wouldnt match up right so we needed to get an extension to weld up the flange from my stock midpipe which were planning on completing sunday night. while under the car my friend noticed that i had single port heads so thatll effect future mods. I'll post pics after I remember where I put my camera.

GTDrifter
03-21-2011, 12:26 AM

also we werent able to weld the exhaust today so its gonna have to wait for another time. car looks pretty sweet with a dual tip though. cant wait for the install.

Currently looking at an sti block with wrx heads, je pistons, and everything needed to swap except a turbo. Seller said he'll include alot of mods and parts and open his garage in which case I may have anything I want. He just sold his Impreza and wants to get rid of anything. Got half of the amount saved up in 2 weeks and I have about a month to get the rest before the summer and I move. Hopefully I can get the engine before the summer and if it turns out as planned then there will be a for sale thread of extra parts to get money together for a 6 speed so i can fun the engine full power.

GTDrifter
04-05-2011, 09:48 PM
So I'm ditching the sti block and looking at getting a jdm ej20t from a fellow member. The sti block costs too much and would just bee too expensive in the long run with 2 tunes and a 6 speed. so close to affording the new engine and am starting tossing around the idea of doing a minor part out to get the money quicker. Got diagrams from a well known company on merging the harnesses and a buddy of mine is a subaru mechanic (cant beat that right?). Decided I'm staying in PA this summer rather than moving so well be parking my rs for the swap and doing the swap over the week while I drive my wagon.

GTDrifter

Got blue neon tube lights from a friend for free so they will be going into the trunk. You may call it ricey but I don't care cause it'll be nice to have a trunk light. Still have to weld a new flange on my stromung dual tip catback. Went to install the axleback portion for the time being but the flanges on my stock exhaust are chipping away and the bolts are too rusted to budge. Tried pb blaster but more of the flange disappeared. Can't weld the flange on because a friend and i are working on swapping his auto impreza to a manual with a new engine and lack of parts and time is making it take longer than it should. The swap isn't as big of a deal as people make it out to be, just as long as you have a donor car like we did and remember where plugs go and where parts got moved to.

GTDrifter

Tail lights are tinted so the rear end aint stock anymore and i replaced the stromung midpipe with my stock one and now there are no leaks (had to cut rusty bolts off to separate midpipe from axleback)

So since I last updated, I added a Duralast Gold Top Battery, VIS Carbon Fiber Hood (a huge thanks to b5a4 ), tinted my tail lights, and took out the unwelded, leaking stromung midpipe and put the stock midpipe back on so I'm running a stromung axleback.

For the hood, the previous owner primered it (which is good cause it would have gotten painted anyway). Today I removed the vents and scoop and painted all the mesh back to flat black instead of primer gray and am now waiting to start working again to get money to paint the hood.

I recently bought a JDM v2/v3 bumper with JDM fog covers and clear bumper signals which I'm slowly sanding to paint. Pics of those are provided as well

I'm in the process of uploading pics to photobucket and will post them as they are uploaded.

GTDrifter
05-13-2011, 09:03 AM
yeah lol...i got transferred to a better department at work which I start monday and it'll be about 3 weeks until I get paid and save enough to get paint

As for the bumper, its slow, tedious work that takes hours to do lol so far I have roughly 10 hours into it with repairing tabs and sanding each fin on the bumper down to the plastic because the primer and paint one of the POs used chips and peels. I'm estimating another 4 hours of sanding and then I gotta primer/paint/clear coat it. then its off to my friends house to use his L beam and sawzall for installation

Hood looks good man, painting the mesh black made it look a lot better for the time being.. yeah I had the same issue with my bumper it was a white bump painted cheaply black and chipped and peeled all the paint off. It's a huge time investment but it'll look great when its done

GTDrifter

Yesterday I changed oil. Finally located Royal Purple locally and threw 10w30 in

Also I didn't inform you guys that a few weeks ago my girlfriend was going to work. We said our goodbyes and I was walking back in my house and heard a loud bang. I turned around to see my girlfriends car pressed against mine with the back end of my car in the air. She had the look of utter fear in her eyes as she knows how much I care about the car. When she pulled forward I inspected both cars for damage. My car had some light scratches on the rear bumper and scratches on her rear bumper as well so it wasn't such a big deal and I just shrugged it off.

An update...
Got paint for the hood, paint didn't match at all, then clear coat made it look much worse.
Got new paint for the bumper, tested it on a spare fender and it matches better than the hood, started priming the bumper until I ran out of primer. Picking more primer up tomorrow to finish and then painting the bumper, might as well repaint the hood while I'm at it.

went to install my jdm bumper today, started cutting an L beam with a hacksaw and got fed up when i got to the mounting points, then went to get a cheap reciprocating saw form harbor freight and the ******s closed as soon as i got out the car, went to sears and got a $60 saw for $30 (on sale). got home and went to use the saw til i realized the included blade was for wood, luckily my dad had a metal blade laying around. then it got dark so i have to finish it tomorrow.

You know what's really funny - the guys in NZ fight over the V5/6 bumper (your previous RS bumper) because they're all driving WRX's older than 99 and have your JDM bumper (V3/4). Personally I prefered the other bumper - it looks more aggressive to me. Might be because I had a GF impreza and did an upconvert to the V5/6 bumper.

got the rest of my new brake setup (2003 wrx front brakes with 2k on the pads and rotors), Version 3 STI rear brakes and Hawk brakepads for those, and a short ram intake (might be ebay)

intake is installed, started sanding the paint/primer off the hood (hoodscoop almost finished and it looks amazing)

also going to pick up STI blue carpet and Konig subzero 17" wheels on Monday (the ones from RS25)

Also got pulled over in Monroe Township, NJ when I went to visit the girlfriends grandparents. We were 5 minutes away from their house when the cop pulled up behind me, followed me for 1/4-1/5 a mile and pulled us over stating that we were "speeding". Then told me my registration was expired (which is because my mom shredded the application thinking it was for my wagon and didn't tell me it came in the mail) so Tuesday I'll be back in NJ to fight both tickets. Wish me luck.

just got dual port headers which is getting modded to single port headers today, Got low grit sandpaper to hopefully get my hood back to carbon fiber, got fiberglass and resin to fix my hood to sell it. Got 22b replica vents for when I get a new hood and just bougth a vent scoop for the passenger side. My cousin car puts me in a "stop being lazy and make the car nicer" mood.

God I love your car.

Also, I like the Hellas that your friend has on there. My neighbor has a blue impreza with black magics on the front, and that thing looks intense. Definitely a good look for the impreza.

This is probably my favorite body style, Hellas or not.

1. I didn't have to use the jack out of the trunk

Not only is the engine guaranteed to run and has a 30 day warranty but it's located only 45 minutes from my friends house who just got done swapping an ej20k into his stm rs and so he knows exactly what I'll need and agreed to do the install for a very low price. UPDATE:
Still waiting for one of my friends to get out to New Jersey to pick up the JDM grill I bought off him. The RS bumper will be finished by next Sunday at the latest and am just waiting on fund to get bumper signals and fog lights or covers. Once the battery tie down come in it'll get installed. As for my headers and stromung midpipe I'm giving up on them for a while because my friend that was supposed to weld them months ago still didnt finish his car and keeps getting more parts so I doubt he'll weld it together anytime soon. This weekend I'll be installing tinted corners to make the new headlights look less out of place.

Here's what happened, sold my old books to amazon, they got wet in transit and were in unacceptable condition at amazon. I complained that they should have insurance on their packages and they technically cost me money for not having the insurance (plus I had a shipping center package them so it should have been done properly) so they gave me the money anyway.
Long story short, here are my $1.70 Hella 500FFs :smt023

a little update...after saying "I'm done with exterior mods" and "I need money for rent" I've decided to make my hoodscoop bigger. Why? Cause it'll help compliment the WRC wing and modding is like a disease. I got a stock RS scoop of a friend (same car that my bumper, fogs, hood, and wing came off of) for free and have to repaint it anyway. I just made the markings for where I'm gonna cut it so I'll probably start that next week.

nikolaus.conrad
03-28-2012, 12:03 AM
All you needed was another hood scoop, but I can't wait to see it when it's finished!

GTDrifter
03-28-2012, 09:27 AM
The hoodscoop I want is $175...I can get fiberglass for $3 for a 1'x3' sheet

If I could sell both scoops before I start cutting I'll get the one I want of bakemono still sells them

EDIT: I might just use a heat gun to round out the top of the RS scoop for now depending on if I feel like fiberglassing or not.

GTDrifter
03-29-2012, 12:40 AM
So I started making the scoop bigger. I have to make it even bigger and warp the sides back into alignment. Here's some pics (sorry for the dark installed pic, I was talking on the phone while taking them so my flash wasn't allowed to work)
