2003 legacy with questions about car and forum

Hey guys,

Just picked up a 2003 Subaru Legacy Wagon L. Love the car but it has some problems that I can't seem to figure out.

1. Hazards don't work. Checked all the fuses and they're fine. A mechanic told me it was an electrical problem.
2. Strange sound coming from the right side (don't know if its front of back) sounds as if something is stuck in the wheel well and is scraping against the tires. But there's nothing there. only makes the sound when moving
3. Seat doesn't stay put! Kinda weird problem to explain. for example when i turn around to reverse, putting extra weight on the seat, it'll buckle and fall backwards. anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it??
4. Wind leakage on both sides of front doors. Its not that serious but it bugs me that wind is leaking through these frameless windows. i hope there is easy solution to this.
5. my car didn't come with a rear privacy cover thingy. I was wondering where i could pick one up.

I've spent the last two weeks reading tons of stuff on the forum.....pretty awesome.... my only problem is that I can't use the search button. I've tried using the search on the top left, but it says "no results" for anything i search for...

1. Does your turn signal work.. If not the hazard button is not plugged in or maybe loose
2. What kind of sound.. The wheel bearings maybe??
3. Get a new/used seat.. Unsafe if you get. Into an accident..
4. Sounds like your car has been on a bad accident???

3) Cant be fixed.. find some any Impreza/Legacy seat at a junk yard and enjoy
4) By design subaru has adjusters that can push the window in or out. You can see the procedure in the Factory Service Manual
5) Use the TOP RIGHT search bar somewhat hidden in the banner. The google left bar is in its test phase.

2) if you have access to a jack and a level spot to raise the car lift the front to where both wheels are off the ground then by hand spin the right wheel listening for the grinding noise and and feeling for a "gratey" (sp) feeling while spinning, also with you hands at 12 & 6'o'clock try to rock the wheel back and forth repeat for the rear as well, if it rocks back and forth a whole bunch then it most likely the wheel bearing, if it's "gritty" it might be the wheel bearing or something with the brakes (pull wheel to inspect...)

how much of a mechanic are you?

2) Could be the brake dust shield is bent and rubbing

4) You can also try some silicone to treat the rubber - do the seals looked cracked?
5) Try Craigslist - the cover for any Legacy or Outback wagon from 2000-2004 will interchange. You might be able to find one at a junkyard for cheap too. The dealer probably can still order one, but I bet that's expensive.

Thanks for some helpful tips. I will try that wheel turning thing That Grafton Suggested. I hope it's not the wheel bearing. I'm not a mechanic persay but ive done simple jobs on a car (suspension, intake, exhaust, etc). The sound is driving me crazy!!! it sounds just like something is slightly scraping something else. I hope it's as simple as the brake dust cover like jey said. I will check it out this weekend

As for the hazards. The turn signals work. But when I push the hazard button in, my turn signals will not work (no hazard lights either).

The wind leak is very minor and only at higher speeds. Still wanna figure out something to fix it. I hope the wasn't in an accident. Otherwise carfax are lies!!!!

And I am interested in those seats. I Live in queens, ny. And yourself?

Of course Carfax "lies" - it only provides the information reported to agencies. If someone was in a single-car accident and didn't report it to anyone...

so i went to a shop to ask them about the noise coming from the right side. He drove the car around and told me it had something to do with the tires. The tires it came with are "champion lemans HR" attached a picture [attachment=0:1m7jvrwj]champion lemans hr.JPG[/attachment:1m7jvrwj]

He told me it was a snow tire and they usually make noise. Also ruling out wheel bearing since the noise is not constant and only comes sometimes

are these even snow tires?
do they usually make a slight squealing and rough noise? (sounds like wheel against plastic)
thoughts?

It helps if you show us the side wall since it has all the info.

Winter tires are ALWAYS louder then All seasons/Summers.

The tread you showed however does not look aggressive enough to be winters but who knows.

I doubt thoes are snows, maybe all seasons but not snows, and I don't think a "rough, wheel against plastic" noise would be made by a tire, but I can't hear it so im not 100%.

tire noise is a constant noise that changes with speed and surface type, not plasticly

no idea what causes that kind of sound

So i finally got in touch with a guy i know at the same shop. (he wasnt there last time) He lifted the car and heard the slight noise too. Opened up the brakes, took the rotor off and bam.. The e-brake assembly was half hanging off. It was rubbing against the rotor or something and making all that noise. i was able to see where all that metal was making contact. he's fixing it up right now. I finally feel relieved.
