My cousin has an 08 2.5i that the airbag light comes on intermittenly. She says that it just comes on randomly when she starts the car, not after its been running a while. And sometimes restarting the car fixes the problem and sometimes it does not.
So is there a way to get the code with out expensive equipment?
Is this a common problem with these cars?
Is there an easy fix to it?
Thanks

I need you to clarify a few things.

1) When she turns on the car the light comes on intermittently? Explain.. The airbag light is suppose to come on for 2-10 seconds then turn off once the car finishes its self test..

2) How long does it do the "intermittent" for? 5 minutes after driving or less?

3) The most common problem is the clock spring that makes the connection between the wheel and column but becuase this is 08' there may be more electronics involved.

Sorry I guess I should have been more clear.
It always comes on when the car is started, but some times it stays on and sometimes it goes off. I don't think it comes on after driving it, it only stays on after starting the car, and then will stay on untill the car is shut off again.
I hope that explains it a little better.

Is there a remote started installed by any chance?

So other people are experiencing the same thing... with no result..

In my experience although its 10 years older is that the clock spring (mechanism that turns the signals off when you turn the wheel back during a turn) has the air bag connection passing through it and when they start to fail you get the air bag issue. However that being said my Air Bag light was on permanently.

I would contact the dealer and make a scene and make them diag the problem for free.

no remote starter that I know of.
Its good to know that this is not the only legacy that has this problem. If I rember I will check the computers at school for a recall or TSB.

The most common SRS fault on the newer Legacy's is poor connection under the front seat(s) to the side air bag in the affected seat. If the fault code does point to this, there is a repair procedure issued by Subaru that must be done at the dealer. Both seat harnesses will get the repair, regardless of which side the fault is occurring.

cool thanks for the info and welcome to the forums.

I tried looking up TSB's/Recalls but the system at our school only goes up to 2007 so nothing there :(
