Agressive offroad/rally-x tire

Looking for a tire for rally-x and some muddling in a legacyable size around $100 a pice all I can find is truck tires or fullblown pro rally tires.

16" preferable unless I have to go 15"

Anything rated for gravel will cost around $200 per for new.

Look at your local rally clubs and see if anyone is getting rid of used gravel tires.. They usually go for $40-100 per.

16" gravels are extremely rare - only Pirelli makes them and I think they are virtually unobtanium in NA. You either run 16" snows or 15's with used rally tires.

Used rally tires are heavy and add substantial unsprung weight which slows acceleration. Snows on the other hand will pop the beads and if really abused will delaminate the treads (I saw it happen). This sometimes leads to a DNF. Since rally-X counts all runs (normally), I prefer to run rally tires.

Well I can do 15's but il need rims, Ill look for some used gravels but It will be more mud/loose dirt from the Rally-X's iv been to and I don't want/need the heavy hard compound. Isn't there a off-road all season or something? If I'm going to go field hopping or down a trail I need to put on my winters or get pro rally tires? Should I just try to find a 205-55R16 with a deep tread pattern?

EDIT: Well I found Primitive Racing has some pro gravel tires for $148 and mud for $160

Gravel tires come in different compounds.. soft medium hard.

15" outback rims are a good deal and clear 2-pot brakes plus they are less exposed then other rims.

You can find a more aggresive all-season. I have some BF Goodrich Traction TA's and they definitely more open tread than most all-seasons. I was talking about actual rally-X courses. If you are just looking to wander down some dirt roads then a true rally tire is probably not what you are looking for. Like Chuck said they come in different compounds.

Most of the time you can pick up rally teams cast-offs. I was given the ones I have for free. I had them mounted on my 15" Outback rims and away I went. They are not balanced so you don't want to run them on the highway. They are also marked "For off-highway use only".

I will be using these for Rally-X and I am planing on changing tires for the events but most Rally-X courses around here are fields with the occasional gravel parking lot but there both loose dirt by the time the cars have taken 2 runs. Dedicated Pro Rally tires would be nice but it would also be nice to be able to put the tires on at my house if I wanna go off-roading and then drive there instead of having to put on my "off road only tires" right there on the trail.

P.S. HOLY SHIT 205-70R15 tires are CHEAP! like strait $30 less than 205-55R16, $100 to $70 is a big difference... how ever I noticed tire rack sells some truck tires but NO summer tires in this size lol.

The Yoko's appear to have more "void" area than the Pirelli's and thus may be better.

Check the rule set of the club you are going to run with. Some rule sets put you against dedicated rally tires or move you up classes if you have more than a certain % of void area.

10. Any tire is allowed except homebuilt studded tires.

Yup you can. They are also noisy as hell. Not a great tire on the highway.

I know at the Oregon Trail Rally, there are several stages where they are on tarmac with their rally tires and hit 130 easy. I know the Subaru Rally Team had their tires balanced, and so did most of the cars, I did not pay a lot of attention to it. Also I know that most real rally tires are in 15".

addendum: 95-96 Outback wheels (the moon shaped holes) don't fit 2-pots.

I tried running the GT brakes (from a 97) and there wasn't enough wheel clearance.

Interesting. I was always under the impression that the Outback 2 pots were the same as the LGT 2 pots of the same generation (in this case BD/BG).

Strange..

When I look up my EJ22E/5MT/OB I get this:

Yet the years seem to overlap... I am so confused... but I do know every time I get pads the shims supplied do not fit my style caliper but seem to fit the LGT fine :-?

When I bought my LGT track car it came with the same TURBO SS wheels were stamped by ENKEI but they are virtually the same as the standard OB wheels. Cleared the LGT 2-pots.

So whats the verdict Mark?

Well, mine say ENKEI on the back as well as "Subaru" and "Made in America" (cool).

The only unique thing I could find was a stamp on it that gave either a model or serial number:

Heck if I know what that means though.
