View Full Version : Dead's Nissan Pulsar GTI-R update 11-5-15

04-01-2011, 10:31 PM
The GTI-R's were a low production number car from 90-94. Less then 15,000 made in 4 years.

Ok, so the story goes like this... I got this car from a friend that didnt have the time for it, he got it from a friend that got it for parts. Well that friend got it from someone that was over there head in project to start with. The car was cut in half, I'm assuming, so it could be imported meaning it was not road worthy. Well, they tack welded it together and then didnt finish it and did it half assed. I got it and wanted the car to be done right so I cut it back apart and did it the right way.

This poor car has been bouncing from home to home getting in worse shape each time. I almost have her ready for the road and that has been my goal the whole time, to have a clean some what stock RNN14 Pulsar GTiR...

 So how'd you get it legal? Or is that work in progress?

 So how'd you get it legal? Or is that work in progress?

It was already here.. and is a work in progress....

04-01-2011, 11:28 PM
just because its here doesn't mean its legal ;)

I cant wait to see the work on this :D

04-02-2011, 12:07 AM
It will be... not worried about it right now. I have a few different ways to do it.

04-02-2011, 12:36 AM
Just been on the Skyline forums for awhile. Those guys have it rough.

04-02-2011, 11:13 AM
Well, really any car is almost imposable to paper in WA if it's imported under 25 years of age, but there are ways around it, you just need to know them. The hard thing is I want it legal so when I sell it, I wont have problems. I know guys that have had theys and taged them as VW Golf's since they look the same... haha

04-18-2011, 10:34 AM
Holy christ!! I just fapped!! I am a Nissan guy at heart, and had an 88 NX Pulsar SE with a CA18DE and that car was a blast! I was toying with the idea of a CA18DET and AWD swap from an Aussie EXA.

04-18-2011, 10:59 AM
I don't know why, but I want one.

04-18-2011, 01:41 PM
I love these little cars. Hot Hatch doesn't even do it justice.

If I am not mistaken Nissan had to push this car out in low numbers to satisfy the emission specs to keep pushing out fire breathign RB26DETT godzillas :-D

Same situation as GeoMetro still in production to balance out all the big V8's still being made.

Either way cool beans and I love the fact that its a SR20DET & AWD. 240SX FTL!

04-27-2011, 12:31 AM
They call these things the baby "R"s... I cant wait to drive this thing! They only made about 15,000 in 4 years, so its cool ether way!

I got some work done the other night...

Chizzed off most of the sound deadening crap for welding and got carried away... haha

04-27-2011, 12:37 AM
I curious about the chassis welding. I'm familiar with the purpose, I just want pics along the way! Looks like the sound deadening was a paint to get off, what were you using? Did you weigh what you removed?

04-27-2011, 12:54 AM
I'm getting ready to cut the car back in half so I can sleeve the rockers and A-pillar and I'm going to take pics of everything.

As for how and how much I took off... It's in a pile on the left front pan. I'm going to put it in a bag and see how much it really was. I just used a big flat head screwdriver and a hammer.. haha... took a little over an hour. Nissan's are not to bad to take it off of, but my Volvo project, its a career...

07-29-2011, 12:24 AM
Let the welding and measuring begin!

This is gonna be a PITA!!! I got the sleeves built and half installed... Working on figuring out measurements. I'm gonna be using my friends GTIR to get my numbers when I have the time to drive over... But its on the way! I got my half cut with all the rest of my parts so Im hoping to have it on the road before the end of summer!

These are all pics of the sleeve work I'm doing... never mind the crappy welds, I need new tips and possibly a handle... :smt017

07-29-2011, 12:33 AM
Here is the half cut... Not sure the year and such, but it's got some goodies that came with it! BOV, HKS filter, Hella fog light harness, and some other things...

07-29-2011, 09:30 AM
Interesting. So you had to cut the frame in half and then weld it back together? Is this to "show" that the car was imported in two halves?

07-29-2011, 11:51 AM
Well, the original people that got it here cut her in half to bring it in. I'm assuming that they brought it right into the Port of Seattle and they will not let a complete body RHD car in without cutting it...

They had done a half ass weld together. I'm a perfectionist at times so it was bugging me. Also this way, it will be more ridged then before and wont need a cage. Sleeving takes care of alining, and also rigidity. It's more for myself then anything. Also when I go to sell it, it might make the next owner feel better about it.

07-29-2011, 11:55 AM
That is FU*KIN EPIC!

I've done only 1 re-weld in my time and it was nothing on this magnitude.

You sir are top notch!

07-29-2011, 08:25 PM
Awesome! There are a few of these on base actually. I didn't know they had an Sr20 and AWD.... Nice!

07-30-2011, 10:37 AM
I hoping I'm doing this all right. I watched someone do it in class about 10 years ago when I was taking autobody in College. It's all in measuring everything right. I know the welds are good enough and done in the right spots. Just a bit nervous about having the windshield pulled out of the frame. No other car in the states is the same so I would be ordering a JDM one and I dont even want to know how much that would be...

and thanks for the kind words! She should turn out nice. I cant wait to have another Turbo car again! I miss having boost! I'm thinking after this one it will be a Skyline or maybe more logically a GT-B.

08-03-2011, 12:01 AM
Thats a sweet VW golf! ROFL

08-13-2011, 10:50 AM
Thats a sweet VW golf! ROFL

Watch out, I'll tell people you like VW's! haha

08-18-2011, 01:15 PM
Alright... got more work done.

I got my measurements and did a butt load of welding this last weekend. I ran out of Argon, but got it re-filled and should be doing some more welding soon...

Some measurements I took off my friends Pulsar at UP Garage USA/Fairlady Motors...
He's been a great friend to have! He was more then happy to let me do what I needed to. He knows I wont hurt his car and wants to see this one on the road...

Some of the crappy welding I got done... Good thing I got my new tank! No more ghetto welds! They will work just fine, but they look horrible! Now for welding the floor pan! :smt010

Driver (right side) rocker

Pass (left side) rocker

A-pillar welds..

And where I ran out of gas... Bird turd welds are no good at all!

08-18-2011, 01:16 PM
Also started to work on the half cut pulling the motor...

08-18-2011, 01:47 PM
Mmmmmm body work! So happy.. So jealous..

08-25-2011, 11:16 AM
Got a ton more done! Motor is sitting in the bay now, but will be coming right back out. Will be installing a new clutch. Just put the motor in for a car show this weekend and will enter it as a project....

Also painted the front end... Car is now on the ground and rolling, but my buddy brought his GT wagon over and is pulling the motor out, so I cant get the car out of my shop right now... haha

Polished out the hood and the rest of the car, paint is not that bad!

Whats left on my half cut...

08-25-2011, 12:57 PM
Should turn the rest of that halfcut into a littler trailer for racing equipment... :D

08-26-2011, 10:36 AM
Should turn the rest of that halfcut into a littler trailer for racing equipment... :D

Crossed my mind, but I only have one good fender, a hood, and a bumper. I'm getting some parts from a guy in Canada and offered to buy the whole car, but he scraped the shell... :smt021 I would have made a rear half trailer...

Got a ton more work done and some great pics! She is looking good! :smt023

Motor is coming back out, but wanted it in for a car show this weekend...

Washing a car without a windshield is interesting...

I have so many missing interior parts, I'm gonna get nickle and dimed to death...

My cat Maddie loves playing in it too... haha

08-26-2011, 10:48 AM
Mmmmmm body work! So happy.. So jealous..

I went to school for it, but I'm more a mechanic now... haha...

08-26-2011, 11:23 AM
Awesome. Love reading this. Keep it up!

09-09-2011, 01:31 PM
Pics from the cars show...

I stole my moms TSW's off her Honda I got for her... haha

Thought you guys might like the sticker...

09-09-2011, 01:35 PM
OMG that sticker is priceless!!

Not diggin the TSW though...

09-10-2011, 10:53 AM
I thought you guys might like that one. My brother was rolling when he saw it... haha

As for the wheels, I like them, but I'll be getting something else eventually. I have my butt ugly ones back on it now...

09-26-2011, 02:59 PM
Back in the shop... New clutch going in...

Fresh machine work...

Excedy stage 1

Back in, almost ready for a start...

Need my driveline and a down pipe and cat... errrr....

09-27-2011, 02:18 AM
Wow. I never knew anything about these cars before this thread. Very, very nice work!

Love the kittah too.

10-10-2011, 10:41 PM
I love it. Be careful though, the feds can crush these if they find out about it.

10-11-2011, 09:11 AM
Whats it like driving without a windshield?

I read an article in Redline Magazine about these GTiR's, they seem like heaps of fun!

10-11-2011, 10:11 AM
You should blast the stock wheels, and hit them with some polish and then clear coat it for some bling points.

10-11-2011, 12:23 PM
I thought Pre 95' JDM cars are legal in North America.. Thus the abundance of Skyline R33/ Legacy GT-B/etc..

10-11-2011, 12:30 PM
I thought Pre 95' JDM cars are legal in North America.. Thus the abundance of Skyline R33/ Legacy GT-B/etc..

Nope... 25 yeah or older... "Classics"... You guys in Canada can get them, but not us. Motorex in CA got Skylines in because they did a ton of work to make them conform with USDOT. But not all Skylines are legal. I have a couple friends that have R-32's that are holding on to them till they hit the 25 year make. GT-B's are not legal ether, but these kinda of cars we did have so the paperwork is not super crazy, thats why I want one of those after my Pulsar is done...

So yeah, any can 1986 and older, not a problem... :smt022

10-11-2011, 12:34 PM
Mrlancaster, Still have yet to drive it... :(

Huffer, I'm not a polished wheel kinda guy, and I dont have the OEM wheels... Sadly... I'm most likely going to get some 16's off Ebay just to have something to roll on that dont look like crap. It sucks building 4 different cars up. Gotta split the funds up...

10-11-2011, 01:35 PM
This is awesome. I've been trying to find one of these for a while. Awesome work so far, keep it up!

10-17-2011, 06:37 PM
I thought Pre 95' JDM cars are legal in North America.. Thus the abundance of Skyline R33/ Legacy GT-B/etc..
Dead91Silvia's got it right, anything older than 25 years in the USA is usually no issue, same goes for anything older than 15 years in Canada. Having said that, I have recently seen 2 complete (non welded) JDM imports recently, one was a Legacy GT-B wagon (twin turbo etc) and one was a v5/6 Impreza STi Type R. both were definitely not legal to have in the USA but it makes me want one even more...

having said all that, i'm jealous of this build and even moreso of the Evo 5 in that pic. is that thing whole or was it welded back together?

10-17-2011, 09:37 PM
Yeah, it's tricky having an imported car... I really have no idea who the original people where that got this car here. I'm walking a fine line with it, but it's worth it...

My friends Evo was brought into Canada legally and then delivered here. Right now he's working on tagging it. Not sure how yet, but he's trying to find a lope hole... I got my GT-B lope hole in my driveway.... a 96 L wagon... muhahaha

10-17-2011, 11:13 PM
Vin swapper

10-18-2011, 12:10 AM
Vin swapper

I'm a car ninja :smt027

10-20-2011, 07:30 PM
was it at WCSS? because there was one at the show with a VIN swap

11-10-2011, 03:13 AM

11-12-2011, 12:34 AM
i was referring to the GTB, not sure if that was clear

11-12-2011, 12:43 AM
Ahh, I see says the blind man... No, I dont have one... yet... haha

11-12-2011, 11:23 PM
lol well I was referring to the import GT-B that your friend has, and my question was if that car was at WCSS this year. Because there was a legit import GTB with a vin swap at the show.

12-27-2011, 12:25 AM
Finally got some more work done! I did pickup a bunch of parts for it, just cant install them yet. Mostly just missing interior pieces I needed...

Finished the welding/grinding... Now I can get the rockers and A-pillars painted and a windshield installed! Running by February? we will see...

Blasted a bunch of undercoating in the rockers...

Undercoated the underside floorpan...

Now I get to splice things! yay!

And wiring... Not that bad though...

12-27-2011, 05:41 AM
looks like you got the hard part done :)

01-06-2012, 12:27 PM
Got a bunch more done... Only because of no work... :smt012

Body work is done of the rockers and floor pan...

01-06-2012, 12:29 PM
And it's now in primer... Hoping to get it in paint this weekend!

01-06-2012, 12:31 PM
beans! so cool.

01-09-2012, 02:23 AM
Got the rockers and pillars painted! :smt026

01-23-2012, 04:02 AM
Found a spot of rust... Took care of that right quick...

Got some of my wiring done (the right way, no butt connectors). I'll finish it on the other side tomorrow... I'm sleepy and have work to get done tomorrow...

02-01-2012, 01:58 PM
Awesome!! This reminds me of my best friend's car. He has a Toyota Corolla AE82 FX16 GT-S in silver. I hope you get your Golf registered for the road soon! :smt023

Damn! I'm about to start a profile on NASIOT just to see if he has any of the parts I need! That is one clean Pulsar!

03-02-2012, 11:43 PM
Got some more done... I even got the the interior back together, kinda, just no pics yet.

Changed out the shredded Power steering belt, that was a PITA!

Also pulled off the oil pan and knocked all the dents out. Painted it my signature RED... haha.... Also fitted some extra S13 braided brake lines I had never used on my Silvia.

Also got all the plastics, at least the ones I have, installed under the car. Both wheel liners, down pipe, and I'm now trying to figure out how to build a one piece driveline. This could get interesting... Needs a slip-yoak...

03-03-2012, 01:27 AM
Ok, got some more pics...

The most cool thing I forgot to tell you guys, she has power! I still cant try and start her up yet though, fuel and brake lines still need to be repaired, but this is a start!

So far everything works, other then the power windows (one bad regulator and a bad switch). All the lights work, the wipers (note to self, make sure they are not ON when you hook up the battery and you have no window!), turn signals, high beams, city lights, hazards, and I even got a cd player hooked up! Cant for the life of my figure out why the right front speaker is dead though...

Any way, here are some pics!

Dash lights and stereo!

Trunk light

Head lights, turn signals, tail lights, and city lights...

Only have one socket for the city lights... :-(

Interior shots!

Driver seat (ugly one) from my NX2000 parts car, JDM seat (nice looking one)... The JDM ones are SOOOO much better then the USDM ones! I just need a driver seat now.. ugh... :smt017

03-03-2012, 01:05 PM
That's fantastic!!!! I can't wait for you to get her going! I can't wait to see this in person =]

Also, is that an old Volvo I see? :P

03-03-2012, 06:31 PM
If you name this car it definitely needs a "Franken" in there somewhere.

03-03-2012, 09:24 PM
not cheap but there ya go: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-90-95-Nissa ... 50&vxp=mtr (http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-90-95-Nissan-N14-Sunny-Pulsar-GTI-R-2dr-Hatchback-OEM-Front-Seats-w-Rails-/350538499664?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item519db90650&vxp=mtr)

I cant wait ether! If you ever find yourself in Seattle, stop by! :smt023

And yes, thats the Volvo next to it...

If you name this car it definitely needs a "Franken" in there somewhere.

I did name her, "Penny"! You know, lots of copper welding wire, and pennys are made from copper... haha

not cheap but there ya go: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-90-95-Nissan-N14-Sunny-Pulsar-GTI-R-2dr-Hatchback-OEM-Front-Seats-w-Rails-/350538499664?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item519db90650&vxp=mtr

For that price, no way! I would get a Bride, MOMO, or a Sparco... I'm not too worried about getting a seat till I'm ready to sell it. Maybe next year or something. I do have a friend that is supposed to get me one though, so I'm not too worried.

04-13-2012, 12:33 PM
Got some more work done...

I decided to attempt removing my windshield myself... With mixed results... :smt009

Everything was going great! I decided that since no one could guaranty that it would not come out broken, I would save the money and try myself. I got it out, but with a little damage. However, I'm still going to use it since we have NO cars in North America that have the same window.

A friend told me about the torch method. It worked great till I over heated one corner of the window and cracked it. It's a low crack and I might be able to live with it till I can afford a new one from Japan (about $700).

Well here are the pics... I now know how to remove a window with a torch. Simple really, just dont heat up the glass too much. What happens is the paint will detach it's self from the metal and come off with the seal and the glass. I used a wire to cut the parts that didnt detach. Worked excellent!

This is the frame the window was in... frame was cut from another car...

The crack's.... ugh... At least they are low and I'm hoping they curve into each other...

The heated parts of the metal...

JDM yo! And yes, I'm leaving them on! Can anyone tell me what they say? haha

04-13-2012, 12:40 PM
Torch? Why not one of these

work wonders when I pulled my BD glass.. Pivots and all

Have you thought about Lexan glass? Affordable, strong, easy to cut.. just needs up keep to make sure its clear through the months..

04-13-2012, 12:56 PM
I had one of those... One, you need the window fixed, as in cant move... Two, I used mine and broke a Subaru window...

I know how I messed up the glass, so next time it wont be a problem...

As for Lexan, I'm already walking a fine line with legal, illegal, so I'm just gonna do it the right way. Plus the next owner I'm sure would want a normal piece of glass installed... Lexan is only legal for race use only when it comes to cars. A couple Pulsar guys have them in Canada, but they dont like it...

04-13-2012, 01:09 PM
Hmmm... just curious where the window cracked.. was it by the cowling?

I am pretty sure you can use Lexan in the rear.. well just a thought :-D

04-13-2012, 01:20 PM
The crack is down by the cowl... on the driver (right) side...

And yeah, rear is ok, just not the front...

04-13-2012, 01:43 PM
Ya I had the same issue with my tool.. like butter until you have to rotate the tool to get around the freaking clips!

Anyways! Whats the plans for the SR?

04-13-2012, 01:57 PM
Yeah, most the time I use wire to cut windows out, but never had luck with it. The heat work great, I just should have practiced on something not so damned rare! :banghead:

I would love to get a NEO head (late model) for it, everyone says thats the best head to have and it adds a ton of power, but for now just stock. a bigger turbo might be in the cards, but again just gonna play with it stock for now.

I have a EVO V FMIC I'm gonna pipe in, they say that give a bit of power also since the flow for the intercooler sucks balls. It's right on top of the motor with no flow through like the Subarus have...

Thats about it for now...

04-13-2012, 02:01 PM
Get the Greddy Rocker-arm-stopper and timing chain when you are ready for reliable boost :-D

Cheers and good luck with the build !

04-13-2012, 02:16 PM
Yeah, I hear the rockers are a weak point on these transverse mount SR's...

I'm hoping to drive her in the next month or 2 so I'm getting excited!

04-13-2012, 03:38 PM
I'm hoping to drive her in the next month or 2 so I'm getting excited!
I hope to be driving my Spit in that amount of time too!

04-29-2012, 06:28 PM
JDM yo! And yes, I'm leaving them on! Can anyone tell me what they say? haha
The "17" has to do with the year the car was registered. A lot of Japan's date systems use the era instead of the year. right now they are in Heisei era, which started when this emperor took over. Right now it is Heisei 24, so it was registered 7 years ago by that sticker. The numbers around it are 1-12 for the months. You pull off the one that the car was registered in so that way you (and cops) know when it expires just by looking at it. The small one is road tax, if I remember right. I got a couple of stickers and that big one with the number on it the same day so I can't really remember which one is which. I know that doesn't tell you what it said, but gives you an idea of what they are for.

04-29-2012, 07:49 PM
Close Yoko, the small one is for JCI, (Japanese Compulsory Insurance) which is an inspection that we have to have every 2 years that says the car is roadworthy, and that can cost around $400-500 depending on the exchange rate, plus you also have to fix any problems they find during the inspection prior to actually passing and getting the sticker, the big one is the Road tax that we have to pay every year, and depending on a few factors determines the price of that, the biggest factor is the size of the engine, if you have a 2.0 liter or smaller than you only pay about $75, if its bigger than that you pay around $200. You are right on the numbers though, that is the 17th year of the emperor that it last had road tax paid, and the JCI was good until the 7th month (July) of the 18th year of the emperor which was 2006.

04-30-2012, 01:00 PM
Wow... cool! I didnt know any of that!

You guys think it would be possible to get some new ones from over there? At least the big round one thats a little deteriorated? I've been wondering about all the registration stuff over there. My car has 194K Kilometers (If I remember right). Thats pretty high from what I have heard...

have to change the little one out ever 2yrs, once it come off its useless. the one with the 17 is the year that cars inspection died. cant get those either.

194k is normal for the gtir. peopel normaly dont junk them unless there is something majorly wrong. japanese have to take there cars to a shop for everything, so it gets expensive. my laurel is almost at 122k, and runs like a top.

Do you think there would be a way to get a scan on one of those stickers? I can have them make over here if I have a scan. The little one is in good shape, but the other one is so trashed..

Also, I know that plates are car/region specific. You guys wouldnt by chance know what the plate would look like on my car, would ya? Would be cool to have them for car shows...

04-30-2012, 05:52 PM
The region on the plate has to do with where it was registered. If you look at the pictures, Crash and I have different plates on our cars. The kanji at the top of the plate shows where it was registered. Mine shows Yokohama. I don't know where Crash had his registered so I can't say what his is. The car specific part is the numer after the kanji. Legacy's are 500 plates because of their engine size. I haven't seen any Pulsars around so I don't know what numbers yours would be. If someone on here can find those numbers for you, it would be easy to make a plastic replica - just find one of those fake plates and turn it around so that it is white and get decals made for kanji and numbers across the top. The plates that I really like that I have seen out here are the back lit ones. From time to time I will see one that the characters are lit up with green lights from behind.

There used to be 2 GTI-Rs here on base, I know for a fact that 1 guy lives in the same dorm as me, If I see his car soon Ill snap a picture of his plate, they are 500s as well if I'm not mistaken, anything 2.0 Liters or smaller is a 500 plate, bigger is a 300. I thought mine was registered in Tachikawa, but that's not the symbols for Tachikawa, the way most of us here remember Tachikawa is a shake and three fries ??, so I don't know. The back lit plates are special order, from what I have been told they are very hard for Americans to get, I don't know why.

04-30-2012, 09:26 PM
A friend of mine has one just like this, but it's a LHD.
Even the same color.

05-01-2012, 01:00 AM
Shake and fries is funny. For Yokosuka, we remember Skinny guy fat guy watching TV with a pot on the stove. ???.

I think making a plastic plate with decals to match would be easiest. Since you know that it is a 500 plate, you can copy Crash or mine. You can get creative and put a different city's kanji on top. Maybe find out what city the Pulsar was first produced in and put that on there.

Well, I havent got a chance to get one of the Pulsar, but it is a 500, same as mine, so here is one of mine, his just has different numbers from the 79 86 on mine

06-07-2012, 12:19 PM
Well, I got a couple things figured out...

Replaced the driver window motor... That was interesting... Found that the left rear door motor from a USDM 1998 Sentra was exactly the same! So the driver door window works now! I just need to figure out why it like to bind on the way up...

As for the passenger door, this one is being a pain to figure out. Found a new switch from a 89 Sentra that plugged in. It has power, but I cant get anything from it. No up or down. I can run the window up or down with jumper wires, but thats it... cant figure this one out to save my life!

06-07-2012, 08:39 PM
Do you still have access to the Sentra you got the parts from? Maybe try using the window buttons from that. The buttons you are using might be dead or have dirty contactors.

06-08-2012, 12:59 AM
I got it from a rear door, they never get used... My Pulsar switch does the same thing also... The driver switch in the Sentra was gone also... I did have to do some wire repair, so that might have something to do with it... I dunno... I had to walk away and leave it alone for a bit, it was driving me nuts.

06-08-2012, 01:09 AM
I know that feeling. I work on radars that don't always work the way they are supposed to. On top of that, having to explain to my supervisors why after 4 days I can't figure out what is broken, I have contemplated kicking something really hard just so I know what is broken. Hopefully you find an answer for it without losing your hair.

06-30-2012, 01:10 AM
Well, I got the windshield installed! Does not look the best, but it's going to get replaced someday anyway. Wasnt as hard as I thought.

I'll post pics later... I didnt really take any, but I get some of it all glued down...

06-30-2012, 04:13 PM
What windshield did you use?

07-01-2012, 11:26 AM
The one I had. I cracked it taking it out of the frame, but I dont have $400 to get a new one yet so I'll use this for the time being.

07-07-2012, 01:20 AM
this guy has some GTI-R parts.
unless that is you :)

08-06-2012, 02:10 AM
Well, I got some work done to it today/tonight.

-removed window tint from hatch and quarter glass
-boxed all the unused parts and cleared out the trunk

I also figured out that I have a 3 piece driveline... I was gonna try to build one, but its one complete mo'fo! So if any of you can find me a complete driveline, I need one!

Oh yeah! I also installed my power folding mirrors a few weeks ago.

08-22-2012, 03:40 PM
Cool, looks good, was nice meeting you at wcss!

08-22-2012, 04:00 PM
This thing is sweet, man! I've been wanting to make a little sleeper Bluebird from a USDM Altima... But, that's not happening. SR20 & AWD... magical combination.

Haha! You and Robin are like brothers from different mothers! Subaru, Nissan...VOLVO!?!

Nice meeting you at WCSS...I've had some back and fourth conversation with Pacific Coast JDM since then. Thanks for all the info.

Same here man! It's amazing the connections we can make when people talk! haha

I have been wanting to make it up there for a while now, now I know some people!

And that Stegea was beautiful! I would take it off your hands, but from the offer you got, I'll wait for another one some day! haha

10-02-2012, 01:25 PM
Got a couple updated pics from the church car show... I'll try and get some more good ones...

All I have left to do is find a drive line, get a cat, and couple the fuel and brake lines where they were cut...

Is that an Infiniti M20 next to your GTiR?

10-04-2012, 12:22 PM
Is that an Infiniti M20 next to your GTiR?

M30... yes... It's rolling on some 18" Works... fun cruiser. He's the guy I got my Pulsar from and he also has an EVO III... I still dont have a good pic of his EVO yet...

10-13-2012, 04:24 PM
You might be better off custom building a driveshaft. Three piece ones are for the most part heavy, complex, expensive, and unavailable on this continent. Ask me how I know.

Looking very good though! Can't wait to see it finished.

10-14-2012, 02:32 AM
For the cost of building one the right way, I'll hold out for the OEM one. I talked to some guys and they are saying $700 give or take. I'm sorry, thats just dumb when I can get another half cut with a motor, trans, and rear diff for $2000.

I'm holing out hoping I can find one for $200 of so...

01-29-2013, 01:35 PM
Hey guys! I finally got the vid uploaded to youtube of Penny running!

Still not cat or driveline, but she runs and moves on her own power!

Well, I have had her on the road for about 2 months now. Still has a few bugs to wrk out, but I have, for the most part, been driving her daily.

This was building a cat-delete from an extra Pulsar exhaust a friend gave me that was not in the best shape.

Well, I've had a few problems with the Pulsar smoking at stop lights. Wasnt sure why, so I did a compression test.

Cyl #1-85 psi
Cyl #2-110 psi
Cyl #3-125 psi
Cyl #4-125 Psi

Low comp in #1. Not sure why yet.

I did pull the valve cover to see if there was anything messed up inside and I found a nice surprise! :smt026

Most likely has something like an HKS headgasket. I'm tempted to check out the bottom end to see if anything has been done there as well. We are thinking cylinder one might have a burnt valve, but not sure yet.

Yeah, it was nice to find the upgrades. I might be finding out at the end of summer about the bottom end. Motor might need to come out because of the low compression issue. We will see.

In more current news! I decided I wanted to do a cone filter (just to hear more fun stuff) and I knocked the MAFS around apparently and messed it all up. When I went to start it up, the car ran like crap. Friend told me to look at the MAFS. It had a missing screw and had corroded the living hell out of the housing making it run crappy. I cleaned it up and little Penny runs faster then ever! I have some pics, but I'll need to upload them a little later.

Also, I'm looking for a set of new wheels for it right now. I cant stand how bad it handles with the super tall snow tires. Fun on dirt, but sucks for corners.

Havent done much to it other then just drive it a bit bit. I did pick up some TEIN coilovers this last week though. Taking a little bit of work to make them nice again, but it will be nice to have good suspension on it and I'm using the old stuff for the other Pulsar.

I am just pricing this low to sell as a whole package it is far less than what I payed for the car and shipping my loss is your gain. you can part it out and make a profit .

Thats about normal price, or at least used to be. I could use a lot of those parts though for my other Pulsar. But, it's in Arizona... Transport would kill the deal.

A little update on this thing... It's dead... lol

So literally the day after my sister passed away, I lost the bottom end. I still need to inspect it to see what happened, but sounds like a rod bearing. Haven't had the extra money to fix it yet.

What? Your sister passed away? I'm so sorry to read this. I have no good advice -went through something similar last year- but just want to say take care of yourself!
