View Full Version : OEM Baja hood or CF?

Yes I know the weight difference. And some people like the look. I for one, am not partial to its appearance. Although am looking to get one due to its price and not having to paint it right away as I would if I got an OE Baja turbo hood. Please do not flame me for wanting to paint a CF hood, I think my car would look better being monochrome. As I said, the only reason I am even looking to CF is that it is lighter, and I wouldn't have to paint it immediately. This is reason enough to me to spend the extra $40 and get CF.
comments please.

Well, the CF is lighter, so that's obvious.
The scoop is non-functional, but big deal, neither is the earlier GT.
Frankly, I WOULD paint the CF hood - because CF is harder to repair once it's chipped.
It might be better to paint the CF and attach a stoneguard to the leading edge, just to give it a little extra downforce on the highway.

Scoop is non-functional on the Erebuni CF hood?!
Well that ****s up my plans :x

no no, I think he means its non-functional in stock engine form, not the hood itself being non-functional.

^ yep, that's what I meant.
And besides, you never said "Erebuni".
PS. Please correct the thread title. It's going to annoy some people. :D

Didn't know anyone else made a CF hood for the BE/BH...

If it's only $40 different, I'd probably go with the CF if I were the one shopping for a new hood.

you know what.. subaru hoods are SO light anyway, i'd be hard pressed to believe that CF would be any lighter...than my hood anyway.

really? I've heard that the weight difference is about 20lbs. I think subaru hoods are just well balanced and jointed that they lift up fairly easily.
But if I think you were to life one not attatched to the car, it would definitely be noticeable.

i dunno. i don't have a scoop or anything, but at high speeds i always see the metal filloopuhlin (shaking) around.

you must be very strong then.
Subaru OEM hoods aren't light, they're incredibly heavy. Moreso on the BE's.

The metal hood is heavier, period. They have Fiberglass hoods, Fiber glass wrapped in CF and all CF hoods. From my experience that's what I feel is heavy to lightest. Although I never installed or helped install a fiberglass hood.

The hoods on the BE's are insanely heavy... about 15lbs heavier than my BD (guess). The new leggy hoods are extremly light, and would be hard to notice any difference in weight. I drove a MY05 OB for two days when the new short block was going in my car. The hood on that felt like aluminum compared to the hood on my car. I think I have decided to go with CF. Will call shortly to see what the shipping would cost on that beast  ..
Thanks for the input.

you need to close it harder then, it isn't fully closed. Or there's a problem with the 1st latch (the one that opens from the inside of the car). Because mine definitely doesn't flap around.
Scoop would make the hood lighter, or be exactly the same, as it is made out of plastic, and there really isn't much more material.
