is the 1999 Ej22 a dual port or single port?

Single I believe, you can swap heads like I did. I may have a pair of dual port heads in my garage.

I'm not sure what heads fit the phase 2 motor nor which one has dual ports.. not sure why subaru went back and forth.

So I had a choice in headers. The valves are bigger and read the flow better. Obviously its all internet talk and couldn't find legitimate comparisons but to me it makes more sense. So I went with that and delta cams. They all will fit, when I ordered my cometic head gaskets I had to have a special gasket made. They said it was custom, but they had the pattern already.

i'm not looking forward to trying to find dual port heads just my luck it would be rip off prices I still don't know which heads I want since i can't figure out which car went back and forth with the ports.

Can you use phase 2 heads? Because the 99+ Impreza 2.2 has dual port heads but they are phase 2. Or if the phase 2 2.5 heads work, that gives you many options.

I think all the sensors would have to be swapped over.. I doubt it.. Subaru needs to stick to one thing..

no, only the early phase 1 ej22 had dual port heads all phase 2 ej22 heads look like the SOHC ej25 heads but are single port

so i have a 99 legacy also, single port heads if i were to swap for dual port sohc heads would all the sensors match up?

No because it switched to phase 2 for sohc dual ports
