Hello all.

So we pick up our 00 B4 RSK (AT) Gorgeous car. Ran beautifully. For about 1 hour.

I do one 0-100 pull and a few tiny pulls on the express way. And I hear a rattling sound.
I think somethings loose. The sound gets louder. I get worried. Put her in neutral. Stalls. Won't start back up. Just picked it up gas was low ( was on the way to fill up)
Get gas. Start it back up after it sat for an hour. TAT TAT TAT non stop as it runs.

No power at all. Just enough to barely move. When the turbo gets into boost it moves a lil better. Stalls when stopped. All the fluid levels are perfect. It just went through a Japanese inspection this morning. No smoke. No over heating. Nothing. Ran good. Slight tapping. Then loud. Then no power and really really loud tap/banging.

It's under warranty and I will be getting a tow in the morning.

However in the mean time any input of what you think it is or if you had a similar problem would be greatly appreciated.

I'm on an iPhone so I will be trying to search as well.

Thanks again.

Main bearing.

Main bearing? Know a bit about cars but first boxer engine?

Does that mean the engines toast? Or will they likely try to bring it back to life?
If so any tips on how to handle it with the mechanics as far as making sure they do the right thing rather than short cut it being that it's under warranty.

Basically the twin turbo engine lunched itself. THe main bearing (rod, crank, whatever you want to call it) ran out of oil, or basically just wore out.

The twin turbo engines (I believe the designator is EJ20H) are notorious for this kind of failure.

The only cure for this is to rebuild the engine, replace it, or switch to a later model single turbo engine. Check out builds by ReubenH.

Thank you much. I'm googling from my phone here so I am catching up slowly.

This sucks. Bad. This car is so awesome. It has 105km on it.

Hoping the dealer will replace it asap. Would it have anything to do with maybe the salesman not puttin high octane in it? From detonation or what not? I'm thinking that is a small factor to cause a failure like this.

Thank you though too this site and reply for getting rid of the questions of what it is. At least now I know what to expect Tom morning.

It's hard to say what caused it, without tearing the engine down. My guess is that you will find that the bearing got loose, either from detonation (though low octane gas would be evident by a lack of power) or from oil starvation. How was the oil level when you bought it?

You may want to update your profile to put your location in - it sounds like you're in Canada?

Sorry about the location. I am in Okinawa Japan.

Well I did jut get the car. So I have no idea if there was lack of power. But I do think that it wasn't running top notch. So that's very likely that it got loose because over about 12km it started with a small rattling. And then it had no power and wouldn't start up.

Over here they have a very strict inspection. The oil was changed jut before we picked it up and I went to check the oil level but then asked the saleman and he said it was all good. So there was no need. But there is oil in it and it is brand new. Getting a tow here soon. I will let everyone know what the word is.

Well Yal. I got the car back today. Feels better in the low revs. Haven't really hit it yet.

We only have access to 86 octane out here unless we want to pay over 5 a gal for high octane.

I put two octane boosts in this tank? Is that enough. Anything else I should do?

That's the old twin turbo. The EJ20R came after that and the EJ206/8 followed that. Depending on the trans, Awfiretto has an EJ206 or EJ208 (which are better than the earlier ones).

It's an AT. Thanks for that info. I was worried.

So what was the problem? Just pinging from low octane gas?

the 86 fuel is going to really going to start causing car issues. they said its because of the issues on mainland, but mainland is getting 91....not understanding this at all.

Agreed and they never really told me what the issue was or why it happened. They apparently have a stock of spare engines and didn't even bother with it. Just dropped a new one in.
