View Full Version : Throwing 5 codes dealing with fuel injection/air intake....

Ok I need serious help, this problem has been giving me so much headache the past month.

99, 2.5gt, M/T

has a 95 2.2 with 58k, the entire assembly is the 2.2 minus the entire throttle body to include iacv, egr, etc...

engine mods-shortram intake, axelback exhaust

We swapped this engine in about a month ago after my 2.5 seized. When we threw the 2.2 in, everything worked fine minus the iacv, egr which was causing bad idle/misfires, so we took the throttle body from my 2.5 and slapped it on and it fixed the problem. Since then, Ive had 2 codes being thrown at me:

P0102-MAF circuit low input
P0303-cyl 3 misfire

*Please note that my cel was flashing on/off for hours at a time, sometimes off for a while and vice versa... I put a different MAF in to replace mine and it stopped this. Since I put the other MAF in the cel stays on consistently now and was able to take a 1500 mile roadtrip with those 2 codes being thrown.

As of last night driving home from work my car started idleing/shaking bad and literally had barely any power to the car. I was right by an autozone and knew there had to be something else wrong other than the 2 codes Ive been driving around with. I've also used 2 cans of BG44K in the past 2 months since engine swap

I was now throwing my 2 previous codes plus (5 total):

P0301-cyl 1 misfire
P1507-IACV malfunction
P0400-EGR flow

*So this is where I'm stuck.... its been running great even with those 2 codes the past month and all of a sudden last night it takes that extra crapper, so what exactly am I dealing with here.

I have brand new wires, plugs, coilpack, optima battery, and the multi meter says all injectors are good. I wanna get this fixed asap as I'm getting horrible gas mileage and I just want her to run well :) and tired of spending hundreds of dollars buying/replacing things that aren't the problem :(

Are you running the 2.5ECU or the 2.2?

2.5 ecu, heard it didnt truly matter from other members who have done same swap

I have a cylinder 1 misfire I can figure out either. I'm down to swapping injectors..

As for your problem, I would assume swapping in the 22 ECU will solve 2 of your 3 issues if not all 3. If you need an ECU for a 22 let me know, I have one for sale.

Maybe you should try the 2.2 ECU. Shouldn't take more than 10mins to swap it out.

Guess ill try that... does it have to be a '95 2.2? Reason how much would you sell it for?

Wonder why now though it just started acting up worse after being ok for a month

Perhaps you have a tank of bad gas... your misfire seems to have switched cylinders, are you sure your fuel filter is good?

Always get shell, never had problems there, fuel filter is new within a year. Misfires didnt switch, cyl 1 just added on, after cyl had already been misfiring for about a month

just have one question, do I have to get the 95 ecu or can it be from a 98 etc?

As far as I know the ecu from 95-99 are the same for 2.2; nothing changed. Hopefully someone else can chime in and confirm that.

^thnx garrison, just had to make sure since I heard the '95 usually goes in "code free" so I assumed there may be something different and the fact that the engine is slightly different than the other years made

I hope this isnt it... but I got similar codes once and couldnt figure it out for the life of me.

I eventually found out that when I replaced my air filter, I first went to see if it was directly behind the throttle body (which it wasnt) and then went to the side location and replaced it. When I snapped the box by the throttle body back together, I missed the latch on the bottom (not the metal latch but a part of one side of the box that seats into the other side, on the bottom of both pieces....) of one side so I wasnt sealed/closed properly. Threw multiple codes like the ones you listed.

Go and take the two parts of that box apart and put back together making certain that the bottom of the box is engaged with the other end.

Fingers crossed.
