Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself.

I am new to the Subaru scene and trying to learn all I can about my newly acquired "original owner" '97 Legacy Outback Limited. Sounds funny saying that to me at 41 but I am a noob. LOL!

I have already purchased a Cosmo Racing CAI and new muffler for the car, just waiting on them to arrive. Next on the list is to lower the stance a bit which is how I happened upon this site doing some research. Still trying to get ideas.
I'm not looking to make mine into a racer, but I love the sound of the Subi engine with exhaust and the look of a lowered Legacy wagon ever since I saw one of my old co-workers driving one a couple years ago.

I would appreciate any and all advice you'd like to offer. :smt023

It also looks like I've got the dreaded oil separator leak which I plan to address as soon as I and my mechanic buddy have the time. :smt011

There are some beautiful cars on this site and I am hopeful that my upcoming build will one day be worthy.

Welcome to SLi.

Sorry to hear about the "Plate of Doom" my 96 Outback is going through the same issues.

You can find the factory service manual located in the literature section which should keep you busy.

You purchased a very capable platform with lots of available modifications.

Enjoy and always browse when your bored :-D

Welcome new BG guy! That's my favorite color out of all the 2nd gen's. I'd say to just pull your whole engine and do all the regular maintainence while it's out.

Thanks guys.

Still trying to keep straight and figure out all the GD, BG, etc. etc, but I think I'm getting it.

I received my Cosmo Racing cold air intake today along with my rear strut bar, rear strut bar is installed. I also received my new muffler on Saturday and had it installed this past Monday and man does it sound good now.

I took the car in for a valve cover gasket replacement since the dealer gave me a loner car and neither my buddy or myself had the time to fix it right now and it turned out that what I thought was the oil separator was only that. :smt023

So next on the list is to find and install a set of WRX struts and lowered springs.

Thanks! I actually like the two tone myself but I'm gonna remove the hideous gold pin stripes. It'll also be getting some gun metal 18's in the future but I've gotta get it lower first.

The rear strut bar is for an Impreza WRX/STi and it is the cheap ebay special that a lot of guys use but it does the job fine.
