How's that canister sound?
raspy after 3k rpms cuz it only has 1 cat, but has a nice baffle to it. exhaust leak at the headers does not give the sound any justice atm though so cant really say how it sounds on this car. When it was on the 98 though it sounded like a honda ~_~
Reason

Yea I have a loud deep note but there's rasp when I ouch it. I think I need to add another HFC or resonated but that's a project for another car.

well like I said I think i might just go back to my magnaflow set up i had previously that sounded fine with just 1 cat, this is the muffler I had on it
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/04/14832-1.jpg
that with the genuine borlas and 2.5" exhaust sounded pretty nice....I honestly dont know why i got rid of it outside of the fact the borlas broke right in half at the flange.

I have Borla reps with a Magnaflow Muffler and an SPT tip and it's really, really deep. Kinda sounds like I'm driving a truck and I don't really care for it.

honestly my old set up didnt sound like a truck at all, was very nice, this youtube clip i found doesnt have the best sound quality but its just about the same setup as the one I had
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uoc0cPJI ... er&list=UL (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uoc0cPJIiqw&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL)
All in all, i made an oops going from that to the OBX expecting the car to sound nice, before the cat got broken in, it did sound nice, but now like I stated before, after 3k it gets really raspy and ricey.
Did you do a full cat-back exhaust or just get an axleback done for the muffler? that might be your issue there.

the tails were from my 98, I used the niteshade tint spray and did 2 very light coats. When i sprayed them the first time a couple of years ago with 1 thick spray it came out sick but illegal as hell XD. You can get the can at your local auto shop.

Powerslot Rotors from the 98 got installed finally, but the rust/metal that got shredded by the old rotor is fused into the paint on my wheel, so gotta sand and repaint the front driver wheel, might just repaint them all or acetone them to get the silver back, not sure yet.

yes and no, if its raspy ill put a 2nd one in, but my old set up was the same way, no resonator but it was 2.5" piping instead of 2.25", i know of a couple sound clips that show off the sound, one of them should be on this topic already, or just go to magnaflow.com and sample the sound clips for subarus, thats the relative tone your gonna get

ya you have to custom order the HFCs, they arent listed on there website. As for the muffler, the inner dia. is 2.25, the thickness of the metal is like, 1/8 or something, and the overall size of the pipe is 2.5"

Actually all 3 lol. The 99 had 3 cats and currently hates me for only having 1. Gonna see how she sounds first and if its too raspy then ill add another cat. Most likely ill have to get an o2 spacer to get rid of the cel

Thought you are coming down tuesday?
That muffler sounds stock on my phone. And mike if you have your stock cats on still the UEL wont make too much of a difference. You will get a little something, but depends on what you are looking for.
My current set up is a UEL header (wrap falling off) 2.5" pipping all the way, magnaflow HFC, 36"-38" cherrybomb glass pack and Megan In muffler. It is a good set up if I slapped a small turbo kit on. But its too raspy up high, I will get a second HFC to put in. Hopefully it will sound better. If not I have another exhaust set up I've been planning for EVOs GT when it was mine.

Do the UEL headers increase how much the exhaust pops?
evolegacy

been a while since I updated soooo......
*takes a deep breath in*
- The exhaust got installed, sounds good minus this slurpish sound that I seem to be getting from the front of the car (possibly the water pump in need of replacement or exhaust leak that I have yet to find)
- The sounds and vibrations ive been getting from inside the cabin are most likely a bad rear wheel bearing, and after replacing the rear Diff fluid and the old fluid looking good, this only adds to my assumptions, will be getting that taken care of sometime in the near future.
- This winter's bitter temperatures have made the motor's minor flaws easier to hear, i.e. piston slap on cold starts and the intense ticking sound from the injectors....typically old ass subie
- I have an undiscovered power issue, either the battery, alternator, or both are dying. The battery is fairly new, no more than 2 years old and from the previous leggy I had, so my guess is the alt, will get those tested when I have time off
- T-stat seems to be getting stuck closed, causing my hoses to seep coolant, already ordered new silicone hoses and a grimmspeed T-Stat, both will be installed within the next few weeks once they are in my possession.
- Clutch and Flywheel are basically gone, already making arrangements with reason to order a kit along with new pilot bearing, oil seperater plate, and rear main seal. Planning to do a full fluid flush of all systems as well while taking care of these somtime in feb or march when I get my tax returns
- The rust war continues and since its too cold to do too much I only was able to get around to covering up 1 of the areas with some fiberglass and bondo before the cold hit, the rest will get done eventually but not until AFTER I get the mechanics of the car at 100%
*exhales heavily*
so ya, very unproductive winter and bad overall for the car, but its typical of these older gen 2 legs, specially when the previous owners were crazed teens thinking they could make quick, go-fast cars and not take care of the necessities

sry i've been dead to the world here on the forums, 40+ hours a week with random changing work days along with other projects that i've been trying to do has been keeping me busy. But just a quick update for now, I just purchased over $1200 in parts for the car using my tax returns, going to be doing tranny work and a few other things as well. Reason Helped me out and I went through him to get all the parts, just an FYI, his deals are legit the best you can probably go for....All these parts would have probably cost me over $2000 to get on my own.
In any case, here's the list, I am doing more but I only had enough $$ to get this atm
Thermo-Tec Graphite black exhaust wrap
Thermo-Tec High heat wrap coating black
GrimmSpeed Blue LW crank pulley
Grimspeed T stat
H&R springs
Genuine Subaru rear main seal
Rear oil separator plate
Genuine Subaru valve cover gaskets
Genuine Subaru spark plug grommets
Competition Clutch stage 1 clutch kit
Competition clutch LW flywheel
redline shock proof
Redline gear oil
Redline PS fluid
Motul brake fluid
GrimmSpeed header gaskets
Gates PS/Atl belt
Techna-fit SS clutch hose

That is a GrimmSpeed crank pulley removal tool on a breaker bar. It mad the pulley swap EASY... Well worth the money

So thats just to hold the pulley while you impact the bolt out? Interesting _

Yes, we used that and a 22mm on a 1/2 in ratchet and came off easily. Torqued back down fast, it also came in handy doing the flywheel bolts.

motor didnt want to come loose,....and I also forgot to take out the last stud which was well hidden, we ended up cracking the bell housing on the motor side of the split, but nothing serious enough to cause any harm
where's the rest of the pics reason? I'm sure we took more

For future referance, putting a breaker bar on the crank bolt, wedging the breaker bar against the floor, and disconnecting the coil and bumping the starter is also an excellent in car solution. I've never had one I couldn't break loose with an impact when the motor was out tho, same goes for the flywheel bolts.

I assumed you do, i just like to pass on the numerous Subaru hints we have discovered.
So was this the newer style tranny with the extra bolts? if so, i feel your pain, I fought with a tranny for hours once because I didn't know they added more attachments in 99'

it was your standard 8 bolt setup but we only counted 7 and up until we saw the crack, assumed we took out all of them :-/ (we as in myself >.>) we have more pics but my other camera guy seems to be MIA currently

That's kind of funny actually. My motor also did not want to come loose at some point, and I ended up with a cracked/chipped bell housing on the transmission side. Also nothing serious and it's running in my car just fine now. Silly motors...

heading back to Reason's place due to bad chatter noises coming from the bellhousing while coasting in gear, think we installed the throw out bearing wrong. Plus the Stage 1 clutch just arrived (the right one this time) so that's gotta go in, along with wrapping my headers. Hopefully all goes well ^^
for now, a pic for you guys ^^

neither did I, we let the Saab guy do that *idiot move >.<* Im just hoping its only that and not something wrong with the tranny itself.

Im the Saab guy he speaks of. BUT the throw out was installed correctly, it was just a cheap POS, these two fools seem to forget how many times i pulled through for them on these two motor pulls :P

rofl jackasses, anyways.....
tranny noise it be, the throw out bearing was indeed no good but the noise is still there, possible syncros? Old man thinks that but wants me to check the drive shaft and U-joints first since we did man handle the motor pretty badly last time we pulled it out. Wrapped the headers but didnt have enoug (aka used to much in certain spots) to wrap the whole thing, but definately quiets down the front end a bit, and notice the exhaust tone change a bit, sounds better ^^. Got my springs from Reason, but the suspension project is on hold until I can get the wheel bearing fixed and the alt and starter replaced. The tranny isnt a big deal atm since its just noise and its annoying as hell
