Coolant going into overflow tank......

Just recently my coolant has been going into my overflow tank. The car isn't overheating but the fluid is going into the tank. What would be causing this ? I have also heard what seems to be running coolant from the drivers seat when ever i first start the car. I just put on a new rad cap and the noise seemed to stop but the fluid still is going into the tank. Thermostat or a air bubble maybe ? No fluid in my oil either , i checked that.

Is the coolant going into the overflow clean? If it was the thermostat it would over heat constantly, if it was air it would over heat periodically, mostly while driving.

It's clean , but the car isn't overheating... according to the gauge.

Maybe building up pressure and coolant is filled up high? Pressure could be caused by bad tsatst, headgaskets, failed water pump. Did you bleed air from the system yet?

No didn't bleed any air out. This problem just came from out of the blue. I didn't do any work on the cooling system to warrant any air bleeding. I had the head gaskets done when i got the car , about 3 months ago. Would bleeding the system be a route to go ? If so what would be the easiest way ? Or would it just be a waste of time .

Try that first it will only take a little while to do it.

It may or may not be a waste of time, but better to start with the smallest thing and move up.

rev the engine and see if you notice air bubbles form on the surface of the overflow tank. also check to see if there are bubbles under the radiator cap when you rev the engine. make sure that the coolant is NOT HOT when you check under the radiator cap. I had the same issue and it ended up being headgaskets. But it could be something like a clogged radiator. Once the car is at operating temperature check to see if the top radiator hose and bottom radiator hose are at the same temperature. If you have a laser heat gun or something along the lines you could see what the temperature is of your whole radiator at different spots. Just trying to help out, i went through alot of headaches with overflowing.

Some coolant going into the overflow tank is normal. You never specified how much or when this happens. As the coolant heats up it expands, after it reaches about 15 PSI it starts filling the overflow tank to prevent over pressurization. Then as it cools and retracts it goes back into the radiator.

Not alot of fluid and sometimes it's just a little bit and others it is more . It just seems to happen here and there not all the time.
