Around 1-2k rpm's the shields will rattle. All the bolts on the sheild are tight....so the shield isnt loose. What do you guys think I should do now. Maybe a rock is caught inside? Or should I fork over the money and just buy a new cat? So sick of the sound. :(

New cat? Take the shields off.

Easier option - two big metal loops (clamps). Tighten them down, apply some locktite, done.

I was wondering if it was okay to just take the shields off, didnt know if it would melt anything. Im going to go ahead and do that. :)

Do you have emissions? Why not just take the cat out and replace it with a straight pipe?

The heat shield is held on by a thin metal bracket to the cat. The bolts just hold the shield together. The beaker prob just broke off (mine did) It is easier to just unbolt the shield and break it off.

It's ok to do. I've been running without them for awhile. Same with the stock headers, I cut those off the moment they started to rattle. Saved about 4lbs.

Straight pipe causes CEL and over-rich running without any other ECU-trickery...it's only good for WOT driving. Not daily.

Sounds like I have the same sound however, I can't seem to figure out where it is. The rattle happens going up hill or around 1 to 2 grand as well. So where do you hear it? Mine is somewhere either under the car or behind the rear seat. I have already tried to remove all the heat shield and the rattle metallic noise is still there. Let me know if you solve it please.

I'm having the same rattle on mine. I have a '06 BL 2.5i Limited with 94K on it. I'll try the shields this summer when it's less damp around here.

Yeah, I removed all the ones under the car attached to the exhaust system that I found front to the rear and still have a rattle. So now I am thinking that it is inside the cat? Maybe removing the heat shield will fix your rattle, it sure did nothing for me.

There is a heat sheld on the tunnel above the drive shaft,
mine was loose once, rattled like mad.

I'm thinking about taking the rear cat off and putting a straight pipe in there. I don't live in an emissions control county.

Yep that would do it. Funny something so small causes so much trouble. did you remove that shields too?

It still rattles, but barely. I didnt remove the sheild yet, friend didnt have the right size ratchet, and mine were at my house. But I noticed that chillin in one of the holes. Pried the hole a little bigger for it to fall out.

Remove every heatshield :smt023 - I've had mine off for about 5 years now, no problems at all, also I replaced the manifold with a header after the two way collector on the drivers side broke, and then installed new exhaust from cat back. Take a look at the shield that goes above your exhaust / below your driveline and see if you have a crack around the shield or a missing bolt.

:smt023 Very true. I doubt those bolts are going to budge.
