Fixed Subarina. (Thanks Jason!)

Well, after some tweaking, Jason and I got a new control arm and ball joint in on the 'ol girl. Extra big thanks to Jason for the help and use of his garage. 8)

Things were a little tweaked to say the least, wait until you see pics of this control arm, it's folded. :shock:

Because of my twin dump DP and the sway bar shifting in it's mount, things took some finesse to get in but it's done and all seems good.

Damn I got off lucky. I'm off to pass out! :D

As for the parts being tweaked, that's an understatement!
Damage report:
- the inner fender well got mashed on by the tire
- the control arm was complete toast!!
- the bushing in the back of the control arm was nothing but jelly goodness all over everything
- the rubber boot on the ball joint was split open

How you managed to come out so freakin' lucky (only $70 in parts / now w/ JDM ball joint :lol: ) I'll never know. I'm a bit sore the morning after from being under the car twisted up & cold for a couple of hours, but it was worth it in the end. Thumbs up to an experience lived through right?! :-D

P.S. Matt's is absolutely in love with air tools now! (and no you can't run an air line to your house from my garage!!) :roll:

Well, it's a little more then a $100 in damage. I'm out a set of mint condition WRX 16" wheels too. :( Still, I'm very lucky.

I'll tell ya what, these early Legacy's are tough as nails. The way Subarina got through the damage and was still driveable, really shows the rally heritage behind these cars.

P.S. Air tools, do indeed rock! :-D

Yep, 3 1/4 hrs @ $45/hr = $146.25 plus retail on the ball joint (I get a shop discount at the local Advance Autoparts) and the replacement control arm. It would have been almost $250 at a garage for the repair.

glad to hear subarina is fixed! now it's time to watch ebay for a pair of wrx wheels... i know i've seen people selling singles on there for about 50 a pop...

jason... be glad you have air tools... we tried to remove a control arm at the junkyard and broke two drivers and a drop forged box end wrench. :shock:

My impact gun (Ingersoll-Rand w/ 600ft/lbs of torque) almost did not remove 1 of the 2 bolts on the bracket which run up into the under side of the body. :shock: Everything else came off with an air wratchet. The tank was charged up to 130 psi which I rarely have to do. 90-100 psi is common for me to run those tools off of.

Well we all headed back down to the bottom of the hill to regroup & we couldn't find Matt. :shock: Of course we all started to freak big time! Spencer ended up finding him after Matt came out of hiding.

Haha, well, we were in billy country and that first vehicle was a Dodge Ram and even though it was pitch black out, I swear I saw a gun rack! :shock: I didn't want to be dodging bullets or anything, so a little side road excursion was in order. :lol:

My car is actually still pretty f-ed up. It shakes really bad above 40 mph and it floats really bad. The shaking is probably from the rims being bent and I'm sure the alignment is FUBAR-ed but the floaty feeling has me a little worried. The steering just isn't reponsive like it used to be. Could still be because of the rims but I don't know. Until I replace the wheels and tires I guess I won't know.

im just glad to hear that everything came out ok because it could have been alot worse. Too be honest it was one of the closets calls i've ever seen and if it was someone else behind the wheel with out matt's skills, it could have been a disaster. This whole event also goes to show how great the people on this forum are. Everyone who was able to or was in the area to help, did. Just a testiment to what SLI is about and the people who keep it going.... Sorry for the blabbering... :lol:

I think the floating thing is the wheels/tires, Matt, my gf's car did that for a while. You might also want to check the tightness of the swaybar endlinks.

Doh! How'd we forget that one?
Yeah, it's pretty messed up. The rotor must have been pushed back far enough to make contact with it because it's bent downward with the forward directional spin of the wheel.
