Hey guys, what is causing this? Exhaust leak? Vacuum line? I am clueless...

Any videos where the tires aren't constantly screeching?

I hear it, sounds like turbo spool lol.

does it only happen above about 3K RPM over 1/2 throttle? Mine does it too. It is a common problem on the 3rd gens. From a few threads that I found searching on here I think the general consensus is that it is an exhaust leak.

lol tire screeching came standard on these cars I thought? My thoughts are exhaust but it is such a weird thing that does sound like a turbo.
btw, I took first in H Stock with that run I'm pretty sure. :)

Check your ball joints! I had that problem under hard turning. What it is, is the lower ball joint is pushing the back plate of your rotor into the rotor and making that screeching noise. Replace them with new ones and try it out again! That's the reason why you hear it only under hard turning conditions. Other then that you usually don't hear a thing since the ball joint is not put under the stress.

actually, its just under acceleration, not turning. I just used the autox video because it is the only recording I have of the sound.

Ohh lol nvm then I fail. It only sounded like it was under turning conditions. More like I fail for not reading the topics header lawl!
Is it usually under hard accel? My throwout bearing has that chatter when I'm hard accelerating. If I can I'll take an inside sound byte of it to see if its what you hear inside your car. If its similiar I'm going to try the oversized throwout bearing and sleeve(aka tsk1 kit) idea to see if that fixes it.

It sounds exactly in person as it does in that video. I will be getting new exhaust for it soon and will look for any leaks.

My BD LGT does the exact same thing!!! I haven't been able to pin it down though!
It sucks when a guy in an M3 pulls up to you and tries to race because he thinks you have a turbo lol

From that video you posted i agree with Chausx however there use to be talks about "phantom turbo" with gen 2/3 during their high mileage days.
The exhaust leak would be coming from one of the seams in the oem muffler that would "whistle" cause the "phantom turbo" sound you hear.
But that being said the noise is so loud and sounds like a mechanical scrape like Chausx described above.

Prize goes to this guy, I've got the same sound but not as noticeable yet. It is an exhaust leak.

mine did that too, it was a bad muffler when I took it off and cut it open the whole inside was all torn up and blocking the outlet. my current suby had a clogged up cat and the mid pipe kept needing to be welded so I just got new stuff. suby exhaust sucks.
