I was just wanting to know what you guys thought of this car and if it is worth the money to fix it up.

http://boone.craigslist.org/cto/2360765507.html

Also how much do you think it would cost to fix it up?

Based on all the pictures of the bad parts, the guy seems honest enough. However, with rust that incredibly bad on the back, you would pretty much have to get a new panel, and that will be about 400 or more from Subaru. Maybe you could find one cheaper. Also it says the intercooler and radiator were removed but do they come with it? Personally I would not buy it, because it seems to me like one that has been driven incredibly hard, which is exactly the problem I have with used WRXs or STis, because of the nature of the car (turbocharged sport/rally car) it has likely been beat on pretty hard and there is likely some other things wrong.

Ya who knows how the wiring is? Most likely needs a complete motor, transmission, clutch, interior is messy. Why are there holes in the floor on the driver side? That rear quarter can prob be fixed. Regardless over here I can find a perfectly fine running wrx for $5g's without holes and a big dent in the rear quarter!

OK sounds like i will wait around and see if i can find one that is actually running. i wish they were only 5gs here, the cheapest i have found is 8gs.

Offer him 2000 and part it out. Should double your money if you get the right contacts. Plus you can pull whatever you need off the car for yourself.

Now that's an idea but it sounds like he may have over paid for it so the price will probably be hard to negotiate.

Can that motor and tranny be swapped to my car? and if so how hard would it be to do so.

Motor and tranny swap is easy, but....... the wiring is the hardest part. You have no idea on the condition of the motor unless you plan a rebuild. I would say it is worth it for the wiring harness, motor, tranny, dash, wheels, seats(after steam clean) scoop, struts/springs and more to go into your car. That is at least 4-5,000 alone if you puchase outright. Do it! If it was close I would!

Indeed it can, but if it needs new heads it might not be worth it unless you intend on parting the rest of the car out.

I bet you could talk him down with no issues. He's selling a car that only a few people would be interested in running, let alone broke down and rusted to shit.

I say if you have the garage space, the know how, and the money then it might be worth the investment of buying it for the motor/trans and parting out the rest of it.

Mechanically, it is easy. Wiring is a bitch because of the time needed to complete it. Seeing as how it will probably need a rebuild, it wouldn't be cost effective to try the swap. The good thing is you will have a complete donor car to canabalise parts from, and parting it out could have you breaking even. If the price was right (read under $1500), I would take it purely for parts. About 90% of the parts from that car will swap to yours.

Breaking even come on! Wrx brakes 200, tranny 1,000, wheels 500, engine parted 1,000, interior (steam cleaned) 200+, and more!

That's if he bought it purely to part out. If he was buying it for a swap, then he would break even.

Also how much do you think it would cost to fix it up?

Assuming that you're doing the labor yourself:

Used 03 WRX longblock $1200
Radiator $200
Rear quarterpanel sand & rattle can paint $50

If you want a bugeye shell, it might be ok. Too much for for me though.

well the sale didn't go through :-( when i offered 2 for it he got mad and threw me off of his property. He said he paid 4 for it and wouldn't take anything less than 29 hundred. I guess this is what happens when you get people that over pay for stuff and don't want to accept it.

Ow well if anyone finds a wrx that's a manual near western NC for a reasonable price let me know.

Yea people like that piss me off. He said he was going to fix it if no one will buy it for his price. I bet it will sit in that barn until it is considered an antique
