my brothers 2007 mfg in 2006 Impreza 2.5i 5mt has a whine and kind of squeal when you push the clutch in, and goes away when it is released.
the car has about 105k on it and a lot of stop and go traffic with it.
i went to CARR Subaru here in Oregon and one of the service advisors said with the Impreza that the clutch usually lasts between 80-120k miles on them.
i have not heard the noise in person since the car is in Seattle and have not driven it or been in it for at least a year, but when my brother was down here about a month ago i did not hear it.
my brother needs to get it in for the timing belt so i will get to hear it soon. the guy at CARR when i said that could the throw out bearing is possibly wrong with it, and he said they would need to pull the transmission to get to it and they said they would just put in a new clutch.
does that sound like a throw out bearing.
i am not sure what is wrong, i know that the car was not maintained very well.
any ideas would be great.
