Hey guys, i've asked a lot of questions on this board under the assumption i'll be able to find a 97-99 Legacy GT 5spd sedan. No freakin' luck though. I live in the PacNorthWest and the closest used BD is over 2000 miles away.

Where did you guys find yours? Am I a search idiot? I have been searching autotrader.com, local classifieds, carsdirect.com, ebay.....everything I can think of.

I've found a plethora of automatics (which I'm not interested in) , but no 5spds....

I'm crying as a write this.......of course I walk out of work today and parked right in front is a pristine 99GT lmtd, silver with gold rims....SOOOO Sweet, I was going ot leave a message but it was an auto....like every freaking one for sale...

This is a part vent, part question.....help!!!

again...thanks!

mike

EDIT: if i'm thinkinng of upgrading most items anyway, would looking at the Legacy L be a better option? what's the diff between the GT and L?

I found mine 5 minutes away from my house as I was driving by it

You'll find something, as for the difference between GT and L I dont know the specifics but what I do know is a manual is hard to find around here also.

With the GT you have the larger engine (2.5l vs. the 2.2l) and more options, cruise control, electronic mirrors, moon roof, leather if limited, CD player/changer, etc. There's more, and it also depends on the year of the car to the differences.

A 5-speed manual in the GT trim is very hard to find. Good luck

I think I saw one in the F/S section that had an ebay link...dunno if you want to risk ebay though :?

The local used Subaru dealer happened to come across a GT 5MT for us at auction after our auto tranny L series sedan was totalled Christmas night 2 yrs ago. We weren't even looking for a GT at all, but I'm glad we got one. All the standard options they come with are sweet!

BTW, all Legacy GT Limited sedans were made as automatics. The Limiteds were never offered as a manual vehicle or as a special order option. So if you do find a Limited with a manual tranny, it was swapped in by an owner or a garage.

Also, you can check these pages out for production info on the GT sedan/wagon

That doesn't sound right, in fact there is pricing in the 101 site you posted for pricing for the GTlimited sedan in manual tranny.

I had to search for a couple months before I found mine. Have you talked to a dealer about doing a search for you? That's what happened for me, I told the salesman that I had to have it in manual tranny, they contacted me a few weeks later with a GT manual tranny sedan.

I remember when I was looking for mine about 5 years ago I had to look for quite a while before I found what I wanted. I also wanted the GT, manual, and in my case the wagon.

At that point people were finishing up their leases and I thought the market would be flooded, but most people were buying them out, not trading them in. I also ended up paying more than I expected to because of that.

But I have not regretted waiting and hunting for the right one! I have been really satisfied with it! So keep looking and be patient!

Jason, that couldn't be right. Pwise2326 and BlackGTBeauty are two GT Sedan owners that I can think of right off the bat with 5MT GTs.

There are only three Legacys in history to have never had a 5MT as an option: The 92-94 Turbo Wagon, the 06 LGT Wagon, and the H6 Legacys.

i got lucky. while i was stationed at the pentagon my neighbor had, whats now my gt, just sitting out in our buildings parking lot. so i went up to him, got to askin if he was interested in selling and got for 5K when book value was at 8.6K. now when i look around for any used subaru here in the southern mississippi area there is no such luck. until after katrina subarus just didn't exist down here. if even you have to get an auto its a start. you can always do a swap later.

I do not know if that is right, My 1997 is a GT limited manual. And it is not as swap as best as I can tell.

I was only going by what was written about the cars. I too have a 5MT BD Legacy GT, but the comment was in reference to the Limited series Legacy GTs.

From what I can tell, only '97, '98, & '99. The only upgrade really is the leather interior. Everything else would have remained the same between non-Limited & Limited series GTs.

Got mine form CARMAX. It is an auto(which does sux) but it was in Orlando and I got it shipped to Nashville for $150. Carmax will ship anything anywhere for a set price. Not a bad deal when you are looking for something particular. I looked but didn't see what you were looking for. Ebay may also be the way to go.

Mine GT isn't a "Limited" and I have leather. I think "Limited" GT rims have a gold trim on the inside of the forks.

That's what my rims look like if I haven't washed them. :D Home made "Limited" rims.

That's why I roll on WRX rims. Less spokes, same weight, easier to clean and CHEAP. :D

Well, they also got besides the full leather treatment.

The rims as mentioned.

The full faux wood radio, hvac trim. Limited badging. I believe the sound system is different and also has the tweeters near the mirrors.

The seats might be heated as well? I know my mom's outback of the same year used to have heated seats. Not positive on that one.

I believe the heated seats was mainly an Outback feature, not found in Legacy GTs.
I never realized the wheels looked any different between Limited & non Limited GTs either. Learn something new everyday. 8)
