Picked her up and was driving home the day of the Tohoku quake.

A week later while waiting in line for fuel (because of the shortages) the driver of the cement mixer behind me left his handbrake off and rolled into my bumper. :smt013

The damage was minor, just some paint and a tiny dent but because the "blue book" value was $1,800 and the repairs ran to over $4,000 :smt017 they offered to write it off and pay us out... but the dealer had already started the repairs. :smt009

Actually I live in Ariake (Odaiba) which is about 10 minutes by train to Samezu (Shinagawa) but a few hundred metres inside the Adachi border so I have to spend an hour by train and bus to get there! Been in Japan almost 10 years, a few different places but all around Tokyo. Had a few bikes but this is my first car.

I noticed the parts you sell are pretty cheap, I was looking for a few random parts recently I probably should have checked with you to see if you could get them!

Well I tried whacking that something big, long, hard and bent in the rear today and all I managed to do was damage my nuts.

Will have another crack at it tomorrow or Sunday, castration is in order.

Any idea if it's within the realm of possibility to cut off the old bolt with a cheap hacksaw? There isn't much room to move in there.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the exhaust may have helped a bit with the VOD. There's a valve on the OEM exhaust that opens at mid-high speed which (depending on when it opens) could affect it. Will need more full throttle acceleration testing to be sure. What a shame.

I guess partly because of that valve the axle back is mostly louder at idle and lower revs but now I understand why some people complain about their exhausts being too loud, wouldn't want anything louder than this for a DD, not at my advanced age.

Went to Fuji Speedway yesterday, you can do 3 laps for $20 behind (a very slow) pace-car (almost went out with the little biter in the baby seat). I was going to try for last in line so I could slow right down and blast for a bit but decided to pull in behind the AMG SLS for the exhaust note (which I couldn't hear anyway). It was good fun just to do some luke-warm laps, will start looking for a club that does track days or something.

Fitted Zerosports air filter, seems exactly the same as stock.

Will look into swapping the BH intake (long narrow wedge that draws air from between bonnet and grill/headlight) for my intake that draws air from behind the headlight which is pretty hot, especially when the thermo fan kicks in.

So sometime in the past the battery has leaked and wreaked havoc in the engine bay. I didn't realise how much until just recently, guess I should have looked closer when I inspected. Might swap this battery just in case it's this one even though it's still in good condition.

Then I was planning on changing the terminals and putting on a DIY grounding kit but I couldn't loosen the bolt on the pos terminal and had left my 5.56 in the apartment so I just did the grounding kit and will have to do the terminals on the weekend. Might still put another ground in parallel, may start a thread unless someone can tell me the best places.

Well it's basically just a rust inhibiting paint, helps prevent rust and stop existing rust from spreading. I really need to take everything taken out and have the rust removed/replaced but I can't do that so it's just a stop-gap.

I replaced the terminals, and man, what a pain in the arse. The only terminals for sale had bolts too big for the eyelets on the pos power cables and for the bracket on the earthing kit. I could write a short story here but... in the end I replaced the bolts, and while it isn't perfect there wasn't much else I could do. Did most of the work in the parking lot of the hardware store. :lol:

You might notice one cable on the earthing kit missing and the cover for the pos terminal not in place... I still have to finish but I'm sick of the navigation resetting so I'll do it another day.

Installed the Prova ECU and got my Prova bonnet dampers today and whacked 'em on. Went with carbon instead of gold cos I think it's probably a better match with the black car. There isn't much room, they just fit in there, and I think the bonnet sits a fraction higher across the middle.

Next I probably need to tackle the nasty insulation under the bonnet. Can anyone say whether it's a mistake to just take it off? I'm guessing the only place I can get a replacement is from Subaru and that it'll cost a fortune.

I believe so. They don't seem to make them anymore, I got these unused but old and they were advertised for bg/bd.

Recently had the TPS changed due to error code.

Removed the bonnet insulation; can't notice much more noise probably due to the exhaust note, but now I'm thinking it may also be heat insulation?

Installed STi front strut bar. Hopefully a Cusco carbon rear bar to follow.

But now I'm thinking I might leave it showing and just make a surround for it. Damn that ZS harness is impossible to fit under the kick panel... let's just say I have a little less legroom on the passenger side now.

FYI ZS are now selling new units for £240/€270US$390 and the harness for less than half that (my dashboard widget just stopped working), I got a harness from them to avoid chopping my stock one but the main unit was really cheap from a second hand shop.

There's an unused ARC intercooler I've got my eye on... bit pricey but so tempting.

So I bought a Zero/Sports centre pipe and somehow got it installed... kinda.

First off, there isn't enough room to get a spanner or socket in there and the bolts are rusted and seized, but getting it off turned out to be the (relatively) easy part... trying to put on the new pipe I had to push the spring bolts through enough to get the nut on the end, but the last centimeter was so corroded the bolt just slipped on and off... argh. So I have some regular bolts in there until I can get the proper ones from Subaru. (yeah I know I should have bought new bolts before I started, what can I say?)

As for the pipe, it isn't louder, or deeper, but a little Linda Lovelace. I like it. Haven't had a chance to test drive it much and the ECU had been reset when I did, but when I hit the secondary... damn. Looking forward to some more "testing". At just off full throttle it feels great, no VOD but good acceleration.

The JASMA plate had come off so I had to fix it. I assumed the JASMA plate signified compliance with the law for street registered vehicles, but after I got it I realised it said "for race use only". Don't know if I can pass shaken with it on but that won't happen for 2 more years and I'll probably sell it or send it back to Oz before then anyway.

Really? :smt017 My understanding was JASMA is an org created by the aftermarket manufacturers to give peace of mind to car owners when buying parts - each of the 28 members categorises their products for easy identification - I would have thought the 2 categories were guaranteed legal compliance and no guarantee of legal compliance (but you could still pass), otherwise there would be no need for the "race use only" category, right?

It isn't the sound I'm worried about, it deletes a cat. I don't see how I could install a complete catless system and still pass.

When I spoke to the guy in the shop he said if the CEL came on (which it doesn't) it would mean a fail and if the inspector saw the unplugged sensor (which I have yet to remove) it would fail. He said guys swap their shit over for the inspection to pass.

Oh just had another thought - the "race use only" may also relate to manufacturer warranty, stuff like this centre pipe require unplugging a sensor so I guess that voids warranty, things like firmer engine mounts might be legal and pass shaken but are labelled "race use only" cos they probably void warranty, I didn't think about it before cos my car is so old.

Well there are still the cat(s) on the downpipes - I mentioned a full de-cat cos I assume someone makes a catless downpipe with JASMA "race use only" plate. This pipe does away with the second cat on the centre pipe only. My other drive-shaft boot has split so if I get it done at Subaru I'll ask about it when I'm there.

I still have all my original parts. The guys who took the car for shaken last time said they could swap the exhaust for a small price if it didn't pass first time and still get it passed same-day so I guess I'll keep the original exhaust for a while just in case. Cheers.

I kept the original exhaust with the cats so I can just swap it before JCI. I just did it a couple months ago, so I'll be good for a while. Do you know a good place to get aftermarket downpipes?

Down pipes seem pretty hard to come by used, I've seen a couple of sets of headers but can't recall seeing down pipes. I just browse upgarage and sometimes yahoo auctions (but not so keen on yahoo cos I've got dodgy stuff before).

If you win lotto I think a few places still sell them new. I'll have a look later.

It's a fairly small drop in the scheme of things but I think it's just enough. When reversing into a parking space I scrape the muffler on the kerb. Need to do something about that.

The ride is firm. For the roads around here which are ridiculously bad, it's actually too firm (for a GT cruiser wagon). I started at halfway 8/16 and then went full soft 16/16 (recommended starting point). Full soft is still firm but there was slight float when taking one of my favourite corners so I put it at 12/16. I was thinking about the EDFC cabin controller but there's so little difference it isn't worth it IMO. Need to get to a track to have a proper run.

The firm ride seems to have brought back some interior rattles so I'll need to sort that out... again. Surprisingly the wife hasn't complained about the ride and her and the kid can sleep in the back when I take it easy.

There is a yump near my place (actually lots) and when I took it on the billies at 80-90ish they would bottom out so I tried on these to see if they would bottom out and I got airborne instead!

In other news, I bought a Mine's ECU to compare to the Prova one I have now, doesn't seem to be much different ATM, similar tunes.

Oh and as you can see in the vid I have a dash mat.

Gotta say the turbo loves the cold weather.

And I have a small oil leak onto the exhaust manifold so now I get smoke coming out from under the bonnet for a while after they get hot until it burns off. Pretty scary the first time it happened.

Bought some studless tyres for a possible drive up to Fukushima so will probably get some new summer rims.

And have some 4 pots on the way for the front.

Yeah my wife mentioned that, so it's free from Tokyo if you go further than Shirakawa? Sweet. I can justify my spending on new rims and whatnot because of the savings on Shinkansen tickets... so long as I find somewhere to fit the studlesses in time.

Installed some under-bonnet bling today. I thought this had an extra fin to divert air evenly over the intercooler but it's pretty much exactly the same as the stock thingy, just looks better.

And I was speaking about rattles before... after pulling off parts of my dash numerous times I've finally realised the rattle is the piece of plastic on the back of the steering wheel, I figured I'd just tighten the screws but it turns out there are none. I was thinking the easiest fix would just be some electrical wiring tape but does anyone have any better ideas?

After buying some rims with the wrong offset I've just gone and bought some SSR's... I can't stop impulse buying lately. Probably try to sell the OZ's I bought and get some cheap BE/BH rims for winter instead.

And I've been painting the calipers. Choosing the colour was the hardest part, finally chose carbon grey metallic. Wasn't sure whether to paint the lettering or not, choosing that colour was also just as difficult, finally got gold. Not sure if I'm happy yet, maybe need to see them on the car.

I'm actually pretty stoked with the rims cos they're semi-solid forged, only weigh 5.7kg each and are/were about $500ea when new, they're in excellent overall condition.

You're right, there's a small dent in the lip of one rim but it hasn't been repaired, the tyre mounted fine and it's balanced. There's almost no kerb rash which is somewhat rare.

Got the 4 pots on, bought some Gen 3 twin-5-spokes and swapped the winter tyres on so the Gen 2 5 spokes are ready to go.

The gold paint needs a touch up, not so happy with the main colour, has a bit of a greenish tinge to it.

Best mod so far; a little bit of electrical tape on the back of the steering wheel to stop the rattle that was driving me nuts. Seriously.

The lighter rims are noticeable, and the other day when accelerating past the changeover I didn't notice any VOD, thought I might have had the sequential controller left on 5000rpm but no... I remember describing it after I first bought the car as like "changing gear, slowly" but after the mods I've made it's almost unnoticeable in most situations, still drop into when changing up sometimes though.

Went back and took a couple of shots at the same place as the ones in the OP.

Yeah actually we got stuck for a while, some parts aren't really wide enough for 2 cars. I was leaving a decent gap between me and Yamazaki cos I've done that road on a motorbike and know how dangerous those blind corners can be... plus there was a part where I swear he got airborne, good to have some warning!

The only thing I don't like about the carbon hood is that the scoop is a little bigger than stock, I want one that looks exactly like stock. There's also an ARC intercooler for the same price... which one? Anyway, I booked my car in to have the timing belt done so no more spending money for a while, just dreaming.

I never did say why I got the rims cheap. Well they're supposed to be champagne gold, and 2 of them are, but the other 2 are more like earl grey tea. Easy fix, I just need to send my car back to Oz, park it so that only one half gets direct sun and leave it for about 5 years.

Sorry no update, just need to vent.

Had a few hours spare and thought I'd go out to see a man about a dog. Anyway it was about 22miles away so I figured 1hour there, 1hour back and an hour to spare. An hour to go 22miles, I'm sure you're thinking that's pretty crazy, but then it is Tokyo, right? Well the whole trip is on a National highway and doesn't go through Tokyo, actually I was heading out to Chiba so 22mph average speed should have been pretty conservative.

Well an hour later I'd gone 12miles. Are you f'n kidding me? I could have ridden my bike faster! Finally found a place to turn around, gave up and went home.

I think the next car will be a soft-riding auto with excellent sound proofing.

This place gives me the sh*ts sometimes.

Yamazaki, I remember when I first came to Japan and someone suggested a place to go on the weekend, when I asked how far away it was they said, "about an hour" (by train). I thought that was nuts but soon realised everywhere is about an hour away.

Deadsilvia I still haven't found an actual yard yet but you're right, with gas at about $7.50 a gallon it's cheaper and easier to get parts couriered to me rather than go pick them up! Idle stop systems really make a lot of sense somewhere like Tokyo, twin turbos don't!

I got the wiring figured out and installed the Morettes today. Not too happy with the gap on the side and because of the length of the HID bulbs I had to remove my battery tray to get enough room to even install them.

Need to clean up the install and seal them properly yet.

Thanks, what I really want is just the outside part without the 2 vertical supports, in the same black plastic as the Morettes and then just mesh inside, maybe put a badge on it. Can't seem to find any grilles like that for the late model though, they're all for the early model and are too small. The early model grilles have the centre mesh removable but the later model ones are all one piece which makes it harder to do a custom job.

So the other day it was hot and raining so I had the window cracked, touched the brakes and got the waterfall into the cabin... again! Went home that night and bought the first set of rain visors I could find. Will try to put them on this weekend, is there a DIY floating around? I found a DIY for the BP, seems you have to pull the weather stripping off and screw the brackets in under that and use double-sided tape too. Worst part will be trying to remove the old double-sided tape!

I just bought a set for my car today! I now know what you're talking about with the bracket under the window weather strip. I got mine from the local junkyard and it was really easy to take off. Very straight forward.

I just installed mine, took just a few minutes each side but I might need to pull them off and do it again if the tape doesn't hold...

Someone advised me not to bother with the clips but I figured I'd use them cos I didn't want to break them trying to take them off. But the driver's side I installed a little low and one clip caught on the window so I had to bend it out of the way and the bigger central clips that get screwed in on both sides seem to push or twist it enough to prevent the tape from sealing properly. I think I've got it sorted but it might be a good idea to just take them off and tape it on. The only advantage really is that they help hold it in place when you tape it (especially if you're doing it yourself). If you use strong tape they should last for years.

Make sure you get the right width tape, 10mm was best for mine but I bought 20mm and had to trim the excess off.

Also good idea to use a magnetic screwdriver when taking the screws out cos you know they'll drop somewhere you can never find them.

Can't really use a razor to remove the old tape cos it cuts into the plastic and you need to use a lot of force, well I did. Best method turned out to be a scraper I bought from the hundred yen shop.

Westcoast I got them at auction, cost me nearly $100 which is more than I wanted to pay but I just got sick of the water coming in and wanted them yesterday. There seems to be a bit of buckle in the middle but it's on both sides so it might be normal or I might not have pushed the clips in properly. See what happens.

The visors work well, I can open the window quite a bit depending on the wind and severity of the rain. Did get some wind noise from the passenger's side with the windows up though. Hope it was just cos of the wind or something.

I used to design and layout for PCBA printed circuit board for my company. Rule of thumb is to ground to SHORTEST distance from target and do NOT make large loops because you want to make the shortest ground path for the battery's current. Especially the radiator area where the coolant will be electrolysis from the battery and coolant turns acidic which attacks your engine/head aluminium parts/gasket. Keep your grounds away from the radiator.

Also; your passengers will love grabbing onto your rain visors whenever they get out of your car. This happened a few times to me and the double sided tape lost its bond as a result so they were practically useless. All they did was cause wind noise.

I bought brand new ones for my BH5 and installation was such a breeze because they have 'snap on' clips which make things much easier. But they're a bit thinner than the ones on the BG/BD generation.

Yeah mine had the nasty tape attached, tried everything to get it off, finally settled on a paint scraper that worked pretty well. Scratched up the back a little and cos they're semi-transparent it didn't look great so I plasti-dipped them. Wind noise above 80km/h sucks for sure, in Oz I could do without them but in Tokyo it rains in summer so I need to crack the windows sometimes.

I'd remove the ground wire runs across the radiator because you can see the BLUE plastic cover is just a protective plastic without COPPER SHIELDING. Without shielding, the wire will act as VIRTUE GROUND to the radiator which provide a current path from the battery. Plus, it would look cleaner. Sometimes, simpler is better. This layout you had is nice, clean, and effective but can be improve.

But if you can find a ground on the fender NEXT to your GROUND battery terminal is best, about 2 inches from the post. Head gasket leak always on the left side which is on the battery side due to poor grounding and coolant electrolysis turns acidic which attacks engine block/heads aluminium components.

That ground bar should be removed and incorrect. If you recall, when you jump a dead battery to another car you connect the BLACK ground cable to any METAL part of the dead battery car's engine. Because it will spark and battery out gassed can blow up in your face. You notice Subaru has ground cables connect from engine to the frame/body of the car (ground.) Their cable is cheaper and higher impedance than your expensive low resistance cable where the current would want to flow (shortest and lowest resistance). I would use your blue cables to replace Subaru ground cables. They've done it correctly, ground the engine to the body panels with the shortest distance.

If you're a ground freak, put a good amount of grease to each ground screw. Grease is always wet which creates the lowest resistive path for current flow. In the states, whenever there's a sink there must be a GFI (ground fault interrupt) to shut off power because water has very low resistance and you will be ground path for current to flow through. You don't want to be the least resistive path for the circuit; only to your Subaru ground battery terminal.

I never had any of the problems others said they were experiencing from poor grounding and I never saw any benefit, it was just something to do. So I'll probably remove the majority of it and just leave a couple nearer the battery, better safe than sorry.

This misconception here is the battery negative terminal is ground, it's not. The car body is the ground. That ground bar with 4 wires attach should be mounted somewhere such as the car body firewall. Then go underneath the car, look for the original Subaru grounds normally a small braided cheap wire from the engine to the body ground. Replace them with these blue ones then connect them to this bar (attach to firewall body frame.) That ground bar sits on top on the battery with wires run all over the engine defeats the purpose of correct grounding.

The idea here is to create a ground path to the CAR'S BODY just like in our home ground is ONE point connects to the EARTH GROUND then the rest of the ground circuit AC terminals attach to it. That said, you want the battery negative terminal and engine with more ground wires so the current flows to the car's body, not to other parts such as radiator.

The car's body is ground. In case of a power pole felt on your car, you want to stay inside the car and do not touch any metal parts or get out of your car. Because when you touch the car handle or any metal parts, you are now created a ground path for current flows to your body which will kill you.

The CAR'S BODY is the ground, not the battery. Keep that in mind.

All the earthing kits I'd seen were mounted on the terminal, now I did a quick search and found the same kit mounted 2 different ways, so I can assume the first way is correct (mounted next to the battery on the body) and the second incorrect (mounted on the battery terminal)?

Made a custom grille because I haven't been able to find the one I want. Not 100% happy but close. I think painting the inner section a different colour to the outer part that was chrome might have added some needed contrast (still could do it), and a badge might help.

Sold the Morettes, went back to stock projectors. What I was planning with the Morettes was to use headlight covers with maybe a slight tint to give them an outside surface like regular headlights to make them a bit less obvious (and more aerodynamic). Oh well.

Thanks. It's funny, I still don't know how much I really like them and I had them on my car for quite some time. I like them but not necessarily more than the stock lights so I can take them or leave them I guess. Stock projectors with HID's are adequate but the output from Morettes with HID's is insane. They weren't aligned properly on my last road trip (too high) and I could see just how much light they were putting out.

In other news, the CV boots they used to replace the split ones were wrap around type and one has been leaking. They're going to replace it under warranty but when the car was on the stand I noticed one of the rear coilovers is leaking. Damn, guess I'll go back to Bilsteins, get the leaking one overhauled and sell them, or maybe just sell them as is. Ugh, really don't want to go through the ordeal of trying to swap my suspension again. Might end up paying Autobacs to do it.

So this brought up another dilemma, I want a small drop (sits so high on stock Billies) and I came across some lowering springs for really cheap recently but I'm not sure if I can swap the springs out myself. I understand the general principle, but can I do it without spring compressors (someone mentioned zip ties for removal but do I need the compressors to reinstall the new springs?) and do I need an impact wrench to disassemble the strut? Don't have a vice or workspace etc etc, makes me nervous.

DO NOT USE ZIP TIES! That is crazy if anyone that has done that! You should use a spring compressor for sure. You wont learn unless you try, just be careful if you do.

Swapping out the springs is super simple with the right tools. I hadn't heard of using zip ties, but that sounds crazy. I have heard of people using C-clamps, which isn't any better. The problem is if the zip ties snap or the c-clamps slip, the spring is going to go off in your face. I don't know how much force the impact is, but it holds your car up, so it can't be pleasant. Like Dead said, use a spring compressor. Very simple tool to use - same concept as one of the unsafe ways mentioned. I have done it in the past and the hardest part is getting the suspension off your car.

I could probably get the compressor from Autobacs and at the price the springs were going for still do it cheaply but I was more worried about needing an impact gun to take it apart. I think I'll just put the bilsteins back in (or get someone else to do it if the price is right, really can't face doing it again right now).

Trying to sort a miss I have now, hopefully it's just a dirty MAF or at worst bad MAF.

I've used spring compressors countless times, and done many many spring/shock swaps. Beast has had his Bilstiens out, and STi springs swapped on. Then that sat too low in the rear, so I had to find some GT springs for the rear. Then they came out and I put KYB's in, then I had to swap top hats on the old Bilsteins to get the Billies into my BC sedan. So those Billies of mine have been round the block!!! Fricken easy to do, grow some balls!

Btw, a bloody good upgrade is 2000-2004 STi KYB's with their factory STi springs, with the 1cm spacer in the rear, and rear camber bolts to counter the fitment issues.. I've been running this setup on my GTB for 2 years now and LOVE it. It's a little firmer around town, but on the open road, fucking hell do they handle!!! Add that in with a K-brace, some alloy arms, and 22mm sway bars, and next thing you know you're eating STi's in a dirty ol 90's wagon... It's the best feeling in the world :D

Well I put the Bilsteins back on. Don't notice as much of a difference going back but definitely a more civilised ride with more roll. May get larger aftermarket anti-roll bar(s) to compensate if one pops up cheap.

Also sold the third gen grille which had a gunmetal badge but the buyer wanted red so I swapped the second gen badge, for now I have a stock grille with gunmetal badge. Oh, maybe I should put it on the custom grille...

It's funny, one of those carbon sump guards came up and I bid on it, considering they were over $1k new it was a bargain but just too much, also an STi carbon rear bumper scuff plate slipped out of my grasp, and front and rear Cusco anti-roll bars... damn it.

When I was swapping the suspension back over a guy was washing his AMG C63 behind me so I said,
Sounds good doesn't it?

You're right, it's a "mini", squished version, you can see it's about 6' tall.

My car had 50K on it when I bought it so I'm putting miles on it about 5x faster than the first 15 years of its life.

There are a bunch of projector headlights on eBay for around the $250 mark shipped and I can't get them any cheaper than that. Not sure what Chargespeed piece you're referring to?

Got a couple of carbon bits, well the mirrors are carbon wrap I assume, the bumper protector is a bit silly but it was reasonably priced, after cleaning it my hands were full of carbon shards.

There's a few more carbon bits I want but hard to find at reasonable prices. Mainly a carbon bonnet with the OEM shape (not the oversized scoop).

Anyone know what the stock bonnet weighs?

Brad, they pay for BG's, what we would pay for a beat 1st gen. That would be a lot of money to drop on a part for a BG in Japan.

I might be able to figure the wight of the hood. I know they are at least 40-50 lbs. The turbo scoop hood is even more then the none turbo scoop hood.

Tell yah what, the V3 STi cluster install is pretty sweet. BUT. You loose a few functionality things, there's no airbag light, and in NZ, that means inspection fail, if the guys pick up on it. Then you loose the door open lights, and get a single light, and if you don't put diodes in the wiring, the current feeds back through, and all the puddle lights illuminate, rather than just the one form the door that's. And lastly, you have to retrofit a speedo cable, which involves cutting down the air vent tube to the point it barely even flows.

Old wives tale, there was never ever an alloy BG bonnet, like there was never an STi BG, sadly. If any BG were to come with one, it'd be a BG5C5ED (ED is the STi aplied model code code for the imprezas), which happens to be the GTB limited applied model, I've worked on 4 of these cars now, including my own, all solid steel.

One day I will get one custom made, as all the aftermarked ones come with impreza hoodscoops, and bonnet grilles... What I want from my carbon bonnet is something that looks identical to factory... and have it painted on the outside (And if possible, one one thin layer of black, and the rest clear coat, so that in the right light you miiiggght just see the carbon, how badass would that be)

To be honest I don't see enough of a difference there to warrant the hassle and loss of functionality, I'd probably just go for the STi cluster, straight swap and 240km/h speedo or the third gen BFM swap.

Hell, a dent in the rear hatch the size of a 20c piece was enough for it to be written off!

As a parts car in Oz it would be worth a bit.

The mirrors are heated, the driver's side gets stuck and needs a tap to fold in.

No switches with the mirrors as I'm still using mine.

Put fender and bumper on in the rain. Forgot to plug side marker in. Needs more cable ties but I think it'll patch up OK.

The replacement headlight arrive too but I need to mod it for the HID.

Used the mushroom filter I had because I ripped the damaged snorkus out but it has no bracket so I need to find something to support it.

Looking at the damage again, the frame should be fine. The damage is on the core support and top rail. Both pretty easy to fix.

For some reason the hazards and parking lights don't work.

And actually I probably should have just left the bumper beam in and removed the fogs cos when I installed the new one I couldn't get the rear bolts in.

If it says anything, this was my BD about 6 months after getting my car in 2007.... It had a bent frame rail, but at the time I had the USDM bumper and bumper beam. They are much stronger then the JDM ones.

That being said, I drove my car with the bent rail like that for years. Then fixed it a couple years ago. Looking at your damage, you should be able to get the upper rail and the upper tie bar (core support) to almost new. I think your car could be saved mate! :smt023

Not really worth it, he said he had $4,000 worth of damage (mine is worse), I can get a replacement 3rd gen for that, maybe even a 4th gen. Remember I had a ding in the rear hatch the size of a golfball and repair cost close to $4,000! lol

And I would never get the money back I spent for repairs, really had to weigh up whether to put a few hundred into it to patch it up like I did.

Plus I'm skint right now so can't afford to repair it properly nor replace it, so it'll just keep me mobile until things start to pick up.

Maybe I'll strip it and thrash the hell out of it.

Well, it DID have an estimated $4K in damage, but I fixed it for under $500. Also, parts are a little cheaper now than back then. I figure a little work with a hammer and dolly and the core support could be pretty good. Then you just need a bumper and a hood and it's as good as new, kinda... LOL

It's gone! Truck took it away today.

The wife had put it on the web and got calls from a bunch of companies but most just said right off the bat they didn't want it because it's too old (but I think they were dealers, not wreckers), one company were interested and they took it for nothing (although we transferred it to them so they get the refund on registration and tax when it's deregistered).

I managed to get the sequential controller, harness, ECU, Ganador carbon mirrors with Prova blue lenses and Cusco Carbon rear strut brace.

If nobody wants this stuff I can sell it all locally, would rather sell it all at once, or bundle stuff if possible. Shoot me a PM if serious otherwise I'll advertise it.

Thankfully we got a 3 year warranty because already the CD player won't load or eject CD's.

Enjoying it so far, kicked the traction control in quite a few times already so I might be able to have some fun when I switch it off.

Oh man I love big body sedans. Any big plans for that beast? They look so simple but so sleek.

Yeah it's enough of a luxo-barge to be comfortable but it's also pretty sporty, firm suspension and very little body roll that I think it will still be fun to drive.

The interior is really nice too and that's where you spend all your time.

Don't think I'll be doing any mods, just try to hook up an iphone/ipod cable to the aux jacks in the centre console as cleanly as I can.

Hmm, that may be, but I just realized that anybody who went through the effort of changing the look from a Nissan Fuga to an Infinity M45 would also change the regular wheels to sport wheels if they had them. I think you'll have to find out from the model code or VIN to be completely sure.

They've only just started the Infiniti brand in Australia, and we don't really get any of Nissan's FR cars anymore. I don't have strong feelings either way but I prefer Nissan to Toyota/Lexus. And you can think of it this way; the wife actually bought it and she wanted a Nissan Micra or Honda Fit or something small but I managed to talk her into a 4.5L V8 FR sedan.

They still sell the Fuga, just not the V8 version. The hybrid model also started around 2009.

Yeah it has the Sports package, just wish it had the Bose surround system with DVD player.

From what I read, I believe the Sports gets stiffer suspension, 19" wheels, more bolstering on the seats, extra stitching on the leather, metallic trim (but mine is optioned back to the satin wood which I actually prefer)... that's all I remember.

Not sure if it's worth making a thread if I don't do any mods, I'll see what happens.

You should still do an MR2 thread. You don't need to post just for modifications, but also for times like this when we are just talking about your car. It certainly makes more sense to have that than keep talking about your Fuga 450GT in your GT-B thread....
