Anyone ever wear out a legacy in 5 years?

reason i ask is because me and my wife are currently in the market for a car. our 95 legacy lsi is having some issues and with 240K i cant blame her for acting up. anyway, we came across this '06 legacy gt that im going to call the guy about and was curious to see what i should look out for. its at a used car lot but it looks really nice, leather, good paint etc...never been in this situation before, like at a car lot or dealer anyway, any questions i need to ask besides the obvious? like a carfax report and such. so, if i see a carFOX, should i get the hell out?

Is this the turbo or na model? If its the turbo check to see if the banjo filter has been removed or replaced. The original one would easily get clogged and cause oil starvation to the turbo.

Also the 05s had some issues, but being the 06 your good!

carfax does not always tell you if the car has been in an accident. a friend of mines mom bought my friend an 2nd gen outback for her first car, the title was clean and so was the carfax. well she bought it after talking to the sellers mechanic and ended up taking it to the Subaru dealer, after she bought it, and they told her it would need about $10k in frame work done. she bought it from a private seller, and they would not give all of her money back, so my friend ended up with a 99 Saturn. with my 98 outback i bought it from a Subaru dealer, the head gasket was bad, i did not know, bad front ball joint again did not know, the ball joint was to the point of it was about to fail, i drove the car on the freeway about 350 miles before i found out about the ball joint and the Subaru dealer made me drive the car about 100 miles back to the dealer i bought it from for them to replace the ball joint. i did not get my car checked out by a mechanic because it was at a Subaru dealer and i also found out it was in an accident it was hit on the side, but i did not see the car fax.
so my point is take your car to a reputable shop to get a full pre purchase inspection. it is well worth the money.

it is the turbo model, YAAAAYYY!!! and where is the banjo filter? how can i tell original from replacement, and if its original should i stay away?

Any car can wear out in 5 years. Hell I can wear out a car in 5mins, just show me the wall.

The turbos on the LGT seem to be a bit problematic, but my personal believe is that it is due to poor maintenance or poor driver behaviors, mainly not allowing the engine or turbo to cool off prior to shutting down the engine. The clutch also tends to wear out kind of quickly (if it is a manual)

My legacy had been in two accident (minor ones) that did not show up on the car fax. however the po was nice enough to let me know about it.

well it turns out the car lot wanted 17K for the legacy. wow. bluebook value said it was worth 11K with all the bells and whistles. but i guess its worth whatever someone is willing to pay.just wont be me.

17k is pretty high. But 11k is still fairly low IMHO.

$17k is way too much, I got mine for a smidge over $12k from a dealer. KBB private party was about $14k at the time.

Wagons and Outbacks seem to go for WAY more than the sedans, I saw several N/A outbacks that were selling in the $15-$17k range when I bought mine.
