01 BE - Constant "whistling sound"

So my brother in law bought his first Subaru. A sea mist green 01 BE w/ the auto trans.

It runs well, but there is some kind of hissing or whistling sound that comes from SOMEWHERE in the engine bay whenever the car is running - idle or not.

Any suggestions for hoses that are sucking vacuum regardless of throttle position? It's been a few seasons since I've poked around the SOHC engine bay so any tips to get me headstarted would be great.

take a cigarette / stick of incense and move it around the hoses.. You should find the culprit this way.
