I'm hopefully picking up some OEM Legacy L/Outback wheels for a snow/fun time set up. I know the stock size on the OB is 205/70 but I'm wondering if that will work, or if I could even go a bit bigger.
I'd like to go as big as I can on stock LGT Springs/GR-2's with rolled fenders.

225/45-15 Hankook RS3. Fits best on a 15x8 or wider.
Just don't expect them to last very long, they are extremely sticky.
Are you looking for one tire to use for summer and winter? Then don't do the hankooks.

No I have a summer set, this will be for winter tires only. They aren't anywhere near 8" wide either, they're OEM Subaru so I'm assuming 15x6 at the most.

Not moving, I live there. We got quite a bit of snow this last year in northern AL and despite how well my WRX did it was still sketchy especially when it froze over. I have to drive about 30 miles twice a week to check on my grandma and take her places, plus I transport my family so I'd feel safer running a dedicated snow tire when needed.
Not to mention how much more fun I'd have haha.

If you get a lot of ice, you need studdable or studded tires. I doubt you get it as bad as us northerners.

It wasn't anywhere near as bad as it gets up north, but coming from Florida and never seeing it I would definitely feel better having some sort of winter tire.
Back on topic, any one have any suggestions for sizes? I'm thinking the 70 series would probably work but I'd like to be sure before I blow $300 on tires :D

Go with 205/65s on your car. I have legacy GT struts on the front of my car and the 205/70s rubbed a lot, and not even at full lock. I put 205/65s on the car and the rubbing stopped. You can also go with a 215/60R15, but you want to stay kinda narrow when it comes to snow. The 215s would improve the handling on the car dramatically though over the 205/70s.

$300 on tires? Buy used... I have spent a total of $300 on two cars in 3 winters...

Stock LGTs for now. The Fozzy suspension will be going in once I get the car back from the shop.

I'd love to find a set used but i doubt I'll find any local and shipping would bring the cost close to new. I figure I might get a month of use out of them a year so it's not like they won't last.
My buddy just gave me a set of 17s from his last car so it looks like I'll be running those over winter instead.
