I am really hoping someone can help me here. So far I have not been able to get a definitive answer on this. I have a 2002 Legacy GT with a 4EAT (TZ1A4ZCDAA-RL). I did some research and everything pointed to that I could swap the transmission from a 2002 Outback (TZ1A4ZCDBA-RM) in with no problems.
I have the transmission installed and I cannot even get the car to start. When I turn the key on all I hear is a buzzing (like a contactor/relay) and that's it. I checked the wiring and everything is connected properly. I am now thinking that I need the TCM from the Outback for it to work. Can anyone confirm this? I hate to keep throwing money at it just guessing. I have called dealerships and every time I get a different answer.
Thanks, I really need to get this car back on the road.

Do you have the factory service manual for your years?

They can be downloaded in the literature & manual section.

You can also cross reference parts from http://opposedforces.com/parts

I had gone to the literature and manuals section before and the links were dead, or something was up because I couldn't get them.

I have looked at the opposedforces website as well...I know the model numbers are different for the transmissions and TCM, but I have found that just because there is a different model number doesn't mean that they aren't interchangable.

I just didn't know if maybe someone had some knowledge from previous experiences. What I have found out is that they have the same final ratio, but they have different shift points, which might be why there is some incompatibility between my TCM and the Outback transmission.

I will keep digging see what I can find. Thanks for the direction.

The thread said "if any links go down please PM me and I will put them up"

PM with the manuals you need and I will re-upload on my megaupload account.

opposedforces.com/parts isn't just a parts look up you can click on any part number and see the compatibility list.

Also car-parts.com has a nice interchangeable search so give it a shot.

Thanks for the help. I will keep looking. I find it odd that the car won't even turn over, which makes me think that maybe there is something else going on. I will keep researching.

Just for anyone else's future reference. I got everything going. You need the TCM to match the transmission. Also, make sure the Park/Neutral start switch is functional. Turned out mine was bad and was not letting the car even start. I took the switch off of my old transmission and everything is good.
Thanks for all the help.
