I'm talking to a guy on ebay right now about buying a ej22 short block, its completely bare (no oil pan, crank, or pistons)
I asked him how much it weights since im having it shipped and he replied with "58lbs 12oz in a double walled box"
I'm thinking thats too little for the block am I right?

Short block has no accessories, and it's an empty shell based on your description. You basically have nothing in it, so 50lbs makes sense. The short block with pistons and crank weighs in at around 70lbs.

Most of the weight on the Subaru engines is the crank and the heads (and the flywheel, if you want to count that).
The block itself is mostly hollow and almost completely aluminum.
I think a fully decked out EJ engine weighs somewhere around 200-250 lbs. My friend and I moved my sti engine around by hand.
