well, the wife and i went to Alabama for the long weekend, and her little subaru made a valiant effort.

got there fine, and almost made it home too.

about halfway thru the 550 mile return trip the temp guage started to rise, i pulled off, got gas, and filled the radiator, could find no leaks(sweet) got back on the road and got a 150 miles or so and it started creeping up again, stopped, got gas, and filled it again, this time it has foam in the expansion tank.(sweet)

got back on the road.... and got 30 miles from home and the temp guage went NUTS up, down, stable for a minute, then creeping up, then shooting back down then started to steadily climb...this whole time iv been keeping a real good eye on it, and it never peaked.(what is the peak temp on the gauge?) then it started to steadily climb(had barely gotten above the temp symbol on the gueage until this last climb), so i pulled over thinking i had burned off most of the water..i had. LOTS of foam in the expansion tank... so i filled it again and tried to start it and it cranks, and sometimes will want to catch..but no go.

got it towed home and after it got off the truck, it will crank(cranks nice and even, not fast or anything) but wont catch even a little.

i havent had a chance to play with it yet as it was 1 am or so.

my gut says fuel delivery, as i can crank.. but nothing smells gassy..but that wont fix the head gasket issue.

aaaannnnnyyyyyywwaaaayyy...

looking for a DOHC 2.5, and i think iv decided to go with a JDM motor, due to the low mileage. of course i will go thru it before i put it in the car.

who have you gone thru for JDM motors?

tiger?

sunrise?

just looking for the thoughts of those who have purchased, cause i dont know any of these companies from adam.

thanks.

I have had good luck with tiger in the past for my Mitsubishi and Nissan stuff. I can't see their Scooby stuff being bad.

I have seen EJ25Ds on ebay going for under $1000 shipped.

http://www.jdmenginedepot.com/jdm_engin ... ster_EJ25D (http://www.jdmenginedepot.com/jdm_engine_details/142/Subaru_Impreza/Legacy/Forester_EJ25D)

this link lists the jdm ej25 as having a 10:1 compression ratio..is that correct?

also lists a distributor as parts included..hmmm

They use a boiler plate listing when they list their motors, since some of the Honda and Nissan engines use distributors. They probably mean the coil and they may have mixed up their CRs with that of the EJ251, which is 10:1.

Just be wary of what you get from here. I have already seen flood-damaged cars engines being pulled for resale at one of the junkyards. Make sure you get a warranty or something.
