Anyone know how to get the cams off the drivers side head? I will be pulling my motor at the end of the month and I wanted to change the seals behind the cams.

It should just be a matter of unbolting the bearing caps on the head. The would have to come off to get the heads off anyway.

Hmm that just made me think of something else if I remove it that way (like you said) will the seal for the cam come out as well? I gotta replace all of them

The entire procedure is the factory service manual.

if you just want to change the front/rear seals you don't need to remove the shafts or the covers. Just pull them out and re-seat the new ones with a deal blow.

well the FSM is full of special tools :P I'd have to check.. I hate having to click on each section.. if only I had some way to print out the full service manual..

I wonder would it be under the timing section?

Why not just PRINT everything. All the pages are labeled with the respected sections.

FSM that are broken down into individual PDF files are very easy to navigate.

Besides the sections themselves that are housed in each folder locate the largest PDF file in each section.

The largest PDFs usually have the majority of procedures. The smaller PDFs usually hold small amount of info and specs.

What "special tools" are you referring to?

From my experience everything can be done with a basic metric socket kit and a few flared wrenches, pliers and the mighty hammer.

I would print it out but I don't understand.. say you have a section it like overlaps with the same info on two pages but maybe half less info.. i have a find who has his own printing company and I would love him to bind it but trying to figure out the smart way to do it is crazy.

the special tool I was talking about was to hold the cam in place but most say they just use a crescent wrench on one of the cam lobes and remove the bolt on the cam sprocket like that.

Have you ever heard of KINKOS?

Your above statement doesn't make sense.

The PDF files cant overlap each other.

Each page leads into the next.

Leave the car in gear and use an impact gun to take the pulley off. Simple 1 - 2 - 3!

Hmm might of been how my last one I had someone split it up funny

it would talk about half of whatever you wanted to service on one PDF then repeats the same on the next PDF but then continues on

To replace the cam seals, all you really need to do is remove the timing belt and the cam gears. You could pull the radiator for more space if you wanted, but it isn't necessary. To pull the seals, you can either poke a pick CAREFULLY in between the cam and the seal and try to pop it out, or you can put a self-tapping screw through the metal portion of the seal and use that to pull it out. To reinstall, you want to make sure it is straight. To replace the "special tools" you can get a deep socket that is just slightly smaller than the outside edge of the seal, and use that to drive the seal in straight.

If you need to pull the heads then when you pull the cams, the seals will come out with them.

Drill what out? The cam gear bolt? I had to do that on the EJ257 I have for my BD, but I've never had to do it on a EJ25D.
