I cleaned the MAF sensor on friday, disconnected the battery before hand and the casr ran good after with no problems. Also changed the tranny fluid that day.

Today which is sunday I noticed the CEL came on and it was flashing. In the manual it says its related to engine misfire which the car is still running great. I reset the ECU and it came on again almost instantly.

I dont think it is related to the MAF cleaning but is it possible??

What else would cause this, cam sensor, knock sensor???

Thanks

I am running into the same issue as well. I thought it was the Underdriven crank pulley, but after putting a stock WRX pulley, I get teh same thing. It is always a cylinder misfire, nothing else.

I was tempted to change my MAF since I have an extra lying around. Have someone pull the codes for you to see what is going on.

damn, a pulley can throw a cel??really??

well i went to advance autoparts and they said it was cylinders 1 and 2 misfire. forgot to ask for the number but thats P0301?

1.what would cause this besides plugs, wires, and coil pack? i planned on changing them soon anyway but i guess sooner than i expected.
2.i cleaned the MAF sensor and im sure it was never cleaned, so with 124k miles of dirt build up could that throw a misfire code?
3.will i make it worse by driving it? i dont have anything else to drive at the moment and i dont have the time right now to change the plugs, wires, and coil pack

thanks for the reply DarkPhoenix and good luck

If you damaged the MAF while you were cleaning it...

check your electrical connections too.

i dont think i damaged it, and i guess i didnt fully clean it either...i just sprayed it with the cleaner and i was a good distance away.

ill check the connections tomorrow. is it possible the connection for the MAF is dirty and throwing a code??

or maybe the purge control soleniod that i broke and still havnt fixed is throwing a code??

so i messed with all the connections around the intake, maybe i pulled one on accident. i reset the car took it for a drive and the CEL stayed off. the other times it came on right away. hopefully that was it!!!
