In the event I need to do this (why should I not?) where would you go? Any CT people here can chime in? I know one person on USMB had his heads screwed up by one place he took it too... looks like they took a wire wheel to the heads....

And i guess the cost to resurface is about $50?

when i did my headgaskets i needed to have mine resurfaced mainly cause they were subjected to severe overheating several times. if your block hasnt overheated ever and everything is running perfect then maybe you can get by without resurfacing them. I would have it done just because, it would be safer and you would know that you have perfect seal between the heads and the block when you put everything back together. I had new valves installed, the heads hot tanked (cleaned) and resurfaced for a little more than $300 by the local machine shop.

not to sound mean but you dont want to half ass this project...
would you change your oil filter if you were just changing your oil? yes
would you change your spark plug wires if your just doing the plugs? yes
would you replace both belts if you were just doing one of them? yes
would you resurface your heads when doing just the head gaskets? yes

I would expect to pay over $100 if its done by a decent shop. As of where to go you should ask around and see who people recommend and who to avoid. That's how I found my machine shop here and I have been very impressed with their work.

on NASIOC they said to check out this place but man looking around on the site looks like it will not be cheap just to do two heads..

It's going to cost you $150 for the pair at that place.

I guess so, if it needs to be done and they know what they are doing. How much cheaper could it get? If this place is close to you and they can have them ready for you the next day then why not?

Pay to play... You should see if they can do some PnP work on the heads while they have them.

i asked my shop about PnP and they told me about 500 for just that

You also have to remember you are having two heads worked on versus 1 like most import tuners. Some shops nearly double the price, that's the price we pay to own a subaru.

Motor services inc in hartford. Charged me 50 bucks to resurface ej25 heads. They are also a subaru specialty shop. They only do repairs though.

Levine's if there is one by you. They pressure test and clean and mill. Don't know how much it is to do a suby head but for a camry it was around 150.

Also there is a machine shop in Danbury who did both of my ej25D for $70 total but no cleanin or pressure testing.

Thunder performance said it's $120 for the resurface not bad I guess they also do the heads for the dealer so I should be good.
