Hi everyone im new here. And really need help.
I have got 1995 Subaru Legacy Twin turbo manual station wagon. I had it for less than a month.
The problem is When i accelerate hard the car jerks its like engine turns off for split seconds and then i can smell burnt rubber, It cant be the transmission becouse previous owner bought and installed brand new one. Im thinking its turbo failure but sometimes it drives just great.

Anyone had a same problem and fixed it? or any ideas what it could be?
Any help would be great.

are you popping the clutch when you launch it? If I remember the EJ22tt had some power and you might be smelling the clutch slipping even tho the transmission is new you probably still have a OEM clutch and flywheel.

Are there any modifications like boost controllers, anti-VOD, vacuum lines, intercooler, etc..

At first thought I'm thinking worn pitch mount or engine mounts.

And no i dont pop the clutch i dont thrash it. The smell comes after jerking.
I remember when i took the car from work shop becouse it had rocket cover seal leak. On my way home i was accelerating but the car wasnt gaining speed BUT the turbo was spinning I could hear it whistle but no go lol. Then when i was near my house i accelerated again and there was so much jerking its like when you learnt how to drive manual for the first time and its all bunny hopping. Then that Rubber smell was so strong.

Could that be turbo?

. sti bucket seats
. sti strut brace
. sti struts/shocks
. turbo timer
. boost gauge
. exhoust

and i was thinking it could a disconected vacuum line. Will have to check.

But seriously though I would be leaning towards a vacuum leak or broken vacuum hose/connector.


Otherthan that... have you checked all the basics... Mass airflow sensor, IACV?


Any check engine lights?

What exactically does this mean? Were the RPM's rising but the car wasn't going faster? Or were you on the throttle and it was not picking up speed?

It might also help to know what your boost gauge is saying during all of these symptoms

I bought a New fuel filter and going to put it on now. Hope it will work if not il get new spark plugs.

That happened once i was going down hill and taped on gas to go faster but it was gaining speed slow but i could see my boost gauge going to 10psi and could hear turbo going but was gaining speed.

What fuel are you using? You should only be using the highest grade/octane fuel you can get from a quality/high traffic station. Subarus are very prone to knock, and knock/detonation will cause a significant lack of power if it happens enough .

Yeah im filling her up with the highest octane fuel. Going to buy new spark plugs and see if the problem fixed.
