What are the benefits (detriments?) of using a detergent free motor oil? I am tempted to try out an SAE 30 Valvoline. There is no explanation behind this. I just think it will make my car happy. Am I wrong?

Why would you ever want to use a detergent free oil? The detergents in the oil are a help to your cengine otherwise they wouldn't be in there. If you do try the stuff make sure it has a SM or SN service rating.

You are wrong.

5W-30 or 10W-30 will make your car happy. SAE 30 will make it sad/angry.
