Holy upper Case and Lower case Post BaTMaN!!!
that was hard to read :-/
My 96' outback was a seized rust bucket when i bought it for $460!
I pulled the winshield repaired the rust and quarter panels replaced all the brakes along with a laundry list of bad seals and small mechanical items like the damn hill-holder spring.
By the time I was ready $1100 on the road and I am goign to turn her over to 400,000km in a few weeks :-D
..
But if u want to talk salvaged.. here goes nothign.
My buddy wanted a Legacy.. I found him a 01 BE GT that was turbo'd "once-a-pon-a-time" but was not converted back to stock.
The guy wanted $1000 for the car with Baja hood, 03' Outback EJ251, extra set of freshly rebuilt heads and a few little mods.
Before I went to pick it up the center diff exploded along with the front half of the driveshaft..
So the price dropped to $600.
-Replaced the tranny with a Gen 2 5MT
-Replaced the driveshaft with a Gen 2 5MT
-Replaced sending unit + fuel pump
-Pulled out the WRX injectors and Yoshio adapters and installed stock green legacy injectors.
-Replaced both o2 sensors
-Replaced coil-pack, wires, plugs
-Replaced stereo
-Replaced FPR
-Replaced ECU (previous owner had a Autronic Stand-alone and left the 8-wires to the stock ECU cut..)
-Replaced Upper Rad hose
-Replaced knock-sensor..
So far thats it...
-Chuck

I don't even know where to begin..
I bought my 98 GT for 500 bucks, had it towed to my apartment. Engine was fubared, took it out and had heads machined and cleaned. I replaced the waterpump, alternator, starter, headgaskets, cam seals, every hose, crank angle, knock, coolant, VSS sensors, O2 sensors, new headers, new muffler, new radiator, clutch, flywheel, shocks, every damn lightbulb, exhaust header studs, crank pulley.. Christ, I know there's more I've lost track over every sensor I've changed out, all the stripped bolts I've found and replaced with heli-coils, all the missing hardware, all the things I've personally screwed up, all the things that broke along the way and all the go-faster / go-better parts I swapped in. I'm pretty sure I hit 3 grand in the last 2 years.
It's been fun, not always smooth though. Lots of wrong parts, lots of bad ideas and despite being two years I'm still working on it because it just gives me something to do.
Whatever, I like the car because it's neat looking and it's fun. (and useful)
My wife thinks I'm nuts and she just rolls her eyes when new parts arrive at the door.
Welcome to the club. Mine may not be a true salvage but it was so messed up it might as well have been. At least there was no rust or frame / body damage.
I do get a lot of shit from my friends and neighbors because my car is up on my ramps once a week for something. But hey, it's not just a car it's a hobby.

My 97 BK was bought hit/salvaged with 56k in 04. I sold it after 5 years of owning it without any problems. Had a bad knock sensor once, other than that just maintenance. Wish I had a before pic.

There is a difference between salvage title and "needs work".
I wouldn't buy a salvage title car unless I could get it for less than 1/2 the KBB for a good clean title car, I had pics of all the damage, and had the car professionally inspected to determine that it had a quality repair. And even then it would be a hard sell.
I wouldn't hesitate buy a car that "needs work" as long as the required repairs wouldn't cost me more to do than buying the same car in good shape. But you have to be able to do the work yourself, and you really need to know what you are getting in to.

My SS had a salvage title in Illinois when I bought it, and then when I registered it in MN it went away...I've always thought that was kinda odd...

I understand. That's why I felt like 3000 for my car and 3000
For repairs like headgaket, fuids, axles, water pump, t belt, etc, was a fair deal. Not good, but fair considering I don't do work on my car.
When I was in the market my car was the only 5sp white legacy gt wagon around.
I had to have it. Haha

Too high. $800 max.
I don't DD my Outback, but like Chuck's mine is at 399,840 km (about 250K miles) and about to roll over 400K kms. I paid $495 for it. I replaced the RF halfshaft (used) and put new rear stabilizer links on it. Did the safety and passed. I have about $700 in it.
It is my rally-X and occasional DD (when my 98 Explorer has a problem). The centre diff is on the way out, but i have a used one ready to go.

I got my DD 98 BD from my old job, a used car lot that re-build insurance totals, about 4-5 years back. I wrecked it again and fixed it again... Love my BD... Got it then for $4800 out the door. At the time, they were selling for 5500-7500 in Seattle. Only things I have needed to do is the norm. HG a year after getting it (it had 168K when I got it), t-belt, brakes, bla bla bla... You know what else..
I have had 4 other BK, BG, and BD's...
My 97 BD L II got needing a fuel pump for $800...
97 BK, thought it needed a trans but just rear wheels bearings and much needed TLC with the trans. Got it for $900
97 BG needed a motor. Got it for $1000 (paid WAY too much). It's trashed, but runs and drives now...
97 BG for parts to fix the other wagons... haha... $1000.... Hit in the front and rear...

@Dead91silvia. Cool Man! Were all those salvage's?
@90lsturbo. What year and model Leg did you get?
I really love my BH. I just put installed a JDM grille on it. I wish it was a little faster, but everytime I drive it's more than enough for DD. Us salvage drivers just have to drive extra careful because if it's our fault we don't get insurance money for it! Boooo!!! haha
