Best earthing point locations?

Hi all,

I've fitted a DIY earthing kit but did it in a bit of a rush and I've connected mostly to the stock locations; both strut towers, near the battery and one on the firewall (not right behind/under the intercooler - not stock location).

If my original wires/connections are in pretty good shape (they seem to be) would I get more benefit from connecting to places other than stock to increase the number of points? I read that the number of earthing points increased considerably from second to third gen?

If so, where would be the best points? Are there any places I need to avoid? I Don't have a great deal of wire but could add a point or two in line, giving me about 4-5 points other than near the battery (will replace the original wire for that point) or I could possibly buy another kit just for the wire cos it only cost $20.

Should I just whack it anywhere there's a free bolt?

Thanks... but the OCD in me... those 2 wires with blue caps instead of shrinkwrap are starting to bug me!

I spy three cables that you could route differently -

The two that pass over the washer bottle - run them underneath the bottle and the fuel filter
The one that loops over the battery close to the positive terminal - run that along the fender

Where did you get that bracket for the negative battery termimal?

It was part of the $20 kit I got at the hardware store (one long cable, some eyelets, some blue caps, 4 bolts/nuts and the bracket) but the same place also sells just the brackets. You could probably find something similar near you, or even fab something.

I'm not really happy with the ones going over the washer bottle but there was reasoning behind my layout, mainly that the cable was too short to go another route or it was too firm to bend more sharply (the one that swings around past the pos terminal runs straight from the neg terminal and the wires are bare at the terminal - if I crank it too much I'll start snapping the wires off). I also tried to follow the flow of other pipes and cables and stuff.

It gets damned hot under the bonnet so I think a proper layout would take into consideration and avoid any hot spots too.

^^ no worries - I usually try to keep things out of the way in case I need to pull the battery etc.

8 square mm is 8 gauge however the 11G in the model number leads me to believe that its 11 gauge

Now you've made me do a search and find the homepage, the ax-11g is just the model number because they have another one, ax-22g which is 14sq (I didn't mention but it says "square" in Japanese after the 8sq).
