View Full Version : SS Brake lines, Confusion.

So I installed my Techna-Fit brake lines today. The lines seemed MUCH different but I went ahead and installed them anyways. They weren't labeled. Why is the line going like this? They are all kinked. The rears had the slight bend in them to attach to the caliper.

Also pedal feel really didn't change if at all.. I have WRX brakes with ATE Superblue.

Dumb question I'm sure, but did you bleed them afterwards?

That tiny metal collar about 3/4 the way away from the caliper is the locking support for the brake line. Slide that down (towards the caliper) and insert it into the half-moon slot that you currently have bare brake line running through. As for the rears, I do not know for certain, but it might be a similar situation to your fronts. Easy fix.

Haha. That piece slides? :O

And yes I did bleed the brakes. I did them in this order: Front Right, Rear Left, Front Left, Rear Right as per the manual.

After I fix the lines I will possibly take it to some place which can vacuum bleed it for me.

Sometimes it just takes time on the bleeding. Speed bleeders are a god-send if you haven't used those before. I had them on all of my motorcycles and it just makes bleeding the brakes so damn easy, plus they are only $15 a pack (cheaper on ebay).

And yes, that collar -should- slide, haha. I'm 99.8% sure that it does/will

I will go back out tomorrow and look at it. I will also go through and rebleed the brakes again. If not I will get some speed bleeders.

Also those lines are supposed to kink like that? Well flex I mean. I know they are a lot stiffer then rubber lines.

Will report back tomorrow. Thanks Garrison.

They shouldn't kink, you should see if they twist the other way. Plus that pic the holder looks short... are they on the right way? Front on backs? And you most likely have air in the line of the pedal isn't there. As far as bleeding I always done the furtherest from the MC first and work forward. Rear right, rear left, front right and front left. Sometimes it takes more than one shot, brake bleeding is a bitch.

Well I shouldn't say they are kinking. Just that they are hard to move and adjust. I know for sure the fronts are on the fronts and the backs are on the backs. I compared the ends to each other and the 2 rears have a little bend on the part that goes to the back of the caliper. I also tried switching sides. No change. They were longer then the factory lines.

And what do you mean the "holder" looks short?

I pulled the holders down (They are indeed adjustable, stupid me)

All is better. They are not all twisted.

Sorry I thought I replied. But glad you figured it out!

Excellent, good for you dude.

I installed my techna fit lines tonight, but i made the mistake of pulling the holder section too hard on one line, and the rubber spacer inside and it came out. In order to get it back in, i had to slice some of the rubber lip off.

The front and rear lines are different, the front lines have a straight banjo and the rears have a slight bend. Ill post more pics tomorrow.

Exactly. The rear has the bend. That is how I knew I had them on correctly front and rear.

Ok so in case anyone else runs into this issue - when you order up stainless lines, or any kind of replacement line, you HAVE to make sure you order the lines appropriate for the vehicle - not the brake calipers.

With my recent brake upgrades, the 04 LGT calipers don't 100% match my older 98 LGT calipers. This is OKAY. The big difference is that on the BACK of the caliper, where the banjo brake fitting bolts on, there are some "alignment" tabs. These are not compulsory to use, and if you have done a lines + caliper upgrade like myself then you will likely NOT be able to use the alignment tabs anyway.

In the picture below, in the upper left corner you can see the brake line alignment tabs where the banjo bolt is.

All you need to do to make sure you brake line fits flush with the caliper is to:
a) grind the alignment tabs off - you only need to cut away a small portion
b) rotate the banjo so that the brake line goes through the slots or avoids them altogether.

I discovered the reason for my slow brake fluid leak was I had bolted down the brake line and because the REAR line has a little bend right before the banjo, it was contacting the brake alignment tab. I rotated the bolt and cinched it down. Hopefully it's all good now.

Yep - I got them from 4Zero1, nice price, shipped quickly. The lines are very good quality - but I will caution on making sure the holder section (the metal sleeve with the rubber insert) is positioned correctly before installing.

Next time I take my calipers off, I'm going to grind the alignment tabs off so my brake hose isn't rotated. Makes for a cleaner look to me.
This only applies to using 04 (BE/BH) calipers on a BD/BK/BG vehicle.

I wanted some Braided lines for my 98 GT Limited and I noticed Goodridge didnt have any for my model. Was looking for another company who made some that were good quality. Ill give them a try when im ready to work on the brakes.

Jay I can get Goodridge too, I've tried both on my cars and my opinion Techna-Fits are better quality. If we can get enough people I will do a group buy.

Well I couldnt wait no longer I ordered some SS lines. I have the front end of the car all apart now so figured I might as well do the lines. My pedal is pretty mushy hopefully these improve the feel and its not something else causing it like the MC.

Looks like a new brake setup. Calipers and all

jjay03

Yeah it is lots of new parts in the front actually. The old calipers were pretty bad the pistons were rusted pretty severely so I just got some raybestos remans with their rotors and new OEM pad set. Those calipers are painted also thats not bare metal I just like that look.

If you spray silicone on them and turn them a bit they will then slide easily.

Finally did my rear brakes with these lines and wow it brakes really good now. The lines definitely make the pedal firmer and the rear brakes do more work then you think.
