The local Subaru dealer that I used to work at had a traded in 98 Outback that had been disassembled for a HG job when the owner backed out and bought a new Sube. So after checking the car over I decided to pull the trigger on it. Here it is after being dropped off by the rollback.

This car is incredibly clean. Stock everything. New kyb gr2's, new front brakes and rotors, new tbelt to go with the hg job and its 100% rust free. All this car needs is a bath and HG's.
My plans are to very very lightly mod it and drive it till it dies.

Did you modify the internals of the engine at all? Just curious as to whether you had "big" plans for this soob?

No big plans. Just the usual HG job that it needed. I plan to keep the car for at least the winter. It will help alleviate some of the "truck-like" duties that the WRX is forced to do. Ill tint all the windows, add a decent stereo, and do the Sport grounding mod to the TCM and drive it. It'll be a great 3rd car.

Its alive......with a cel for knock sensor and secondary o2 heater. Typical for an older Sube with high mileage. The outback got a bath and is lookin good. Overall the car runs great and shifts smooth. Im definitely keeping this one for awhile. Ill be tinting the windows and fixing the CEL concerns.

First 1200 miles on the newly acquired Outback. No issues other than a leaky power steering pump.....knocking on wood. Hopefully Ill get around to tinting the windows this weekend. Pics to come.....

Looks good. Difficulty level of self tinting 1-10 for somebody who's never done it?

You have to shrink the rear glass tint before install. Ive got a few small imperfections but this is only my 2nd tint job. Oddly my wrx, which was my 1st tinting adventure, turned out slightly better. Practice and experience is the only way to learn. Id say the Outback is a 7 out of 10 due to the shrinking required. Hth

Pics of rear separator plate and rear main replaced. Believe it or not the old plastic part lasted 200k. It was leaking pretty good though. All my leaks should be remedied now. Power steering pump is next.

Just got back from a 2500 mile cross country trip in the outback. About 25 mpgs and not a hiccup to speak of. Amazing how good an older Sube can be when its been well cared for. Anyone having recurrent HG issues should question the parts used or the person doing the work. My. 02.
Recent mods include oem Subaru seat heaters and an Infiniti I30 auto dimming mirror.
New pics as 1/27/12. My resprayed foz wheels and snow tires for winter. Lookin good.

Nice work! Doing HG's with the bottom end in the car is more work then I like to do. So much more simple to pull the motor... That is a super clean car for the location thats for sure though! Even for over here that would be clean!
