TRANS OIL TEMP LIGHT

Back when i first got my legacy in 2001 i was on vacation with the old lady following a truck up a hill. I had it in 3rd gear because im sure you know how much subies love gear searching on hills. anyway once i got to a straight-away i forgot to shift to drive. Well the trans oil temp light came on and so i pulled over and let it cool. it hasnt come on since....until yesterday. I was just basically driving the same route and style as everyday. Nothing very exciting and it came on again, flashing by the way. Made it back home an checked the fluid, which was fine. I also checked the cooler to make sure i didnt suck a bag or something up in it. Nothing out of the ordinary, the coolant level is fine even though i have a leak at the timing cover, imagine that! heh To make a long story short iwas just wondering if any of you have experienced the same inconsistant MIL. I dont know if it could be a sensor reading incorrectly or something serious. I work at a dealership, but the pompous techs never want to look at it for me. I dont have the resources at home to diagnose it. If anyone can lend some suggestions i would appreciate it.
