Are you asking if taking them off was a problem or if there are any problems after you take them off?
No problems here with them removed. They can be a pain to remove if the bolts are heavily rusted.

there won't be any problems unless you consider getting rid of the annoying rattle a problem

nah, it's not like the heatshields waterproof them.
I'm gonna rip mine off as soon as the weather gets nice and I can get a nice place to put up the ramps. Then it's go time on a lot of stuff!!

Thin pieces of contoured metal just above the exhaust as it runs back the bottom side of the car.

Hehe I was going to ask about this too.
Stupid rattling is really annoying till the exhaust heats up.

A lot of cars have heatshield rattles. Not just Subarus.

My subaru mechanic put a big self tapping screw through the heat shield. No rattle any longer. At first when I was working on my car and saw it, I thought it was road debri that shot itself in there. Then I remember him saying that he was going to fix the heatshield (I figured take them off or something else). Anyway, I know my heatshield bolts are far too rusted to remove, they rusted and weak and start rounding off.
I have a rattle where my exhaust taps my rear swaybar. I want to figure that one out because it comes in sporadically.

there's also some wrapped around the y-pipe (there the two exhausts converge) and around the cat

Put a Borla or EL header on, after getting it coated. Now way you can have just a simple header with coating rattle ever. :)
My rattle comes and goes. One day it's bad, the next it doesn't exist. Then again, I may have smashed everything into place by bottoming out the suspension a few times...

Mine are off. No REAL probs, although underhood temps are higher. I want to heat wrap everything to stop baking the top mount intercooler so much.

You have a skidplate, don't you? I bet it would be a lot cooler at speed with the open air setup.
