Ok, this is just about the most easy, cheap, and no brainer of things you can do! I got the idea when I pulled the Auto trans for my BK and just used this method with a customers 05 XT Outback 5 speed when doing a clutch...

Ever use a spray paint can? I bet you toss those caps in the trash huh?! I did, till now...

No joke, its a perfect fit! This one in the pic (Rustolium), is capping my Auto trans. I used a Dupilcolor in the 5 speed. They are all about the same size. Slide right in, slide right out with losing VARY LITTLE fluid. They DO NOT LEAK as far as I can tell.

Just thought some of you might like this method.

Nice idea, I should be pulling a tranny tomorrow, I'll have to give it a try!

ok i hafta revive this because of a problem i have right now, my viscous coupling is shot and gives me bad driveline bind when turning at low speeds so could i just remove the driveshaft, plug the trans with the cap and possibly duct tape or something to keep the cap in there and not loose to much fluid and drive it FWD for a short amount of time till i get it fixed?

I really doubt that cap will hold up to fluid pressure...

Disconnect the driveshaft and remove it? I don't know if that's great for the AWD system though - it'll probably just fry the coupler altogether.

Unless you are actually losing fluid, it sounds more like you have a torque bind issue.

Search for my posts on "torque bind"...

Yeah.... this is more for if your doing a clutch, or pulling and replacing a trans...

Again, this is really only intended for storage or remove/install use to keep fluid from draining when you dont want it to.
