Hi guys. Enjoying the forum.

So my 1995 BK Wagon (2.2 liter) is now popping out of 4th gear. It happens when I decelerate or if I have the cruise control on & I start down a hill & the engine eases up.

The car now has 237,000 miles and I am wondering if the end is near.

Any thoughts? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

your syncro is bad for 4th gear. once the engine eases on that gear it will pop out everytim. there is no way to fix unless rebuild tranny. with the miles you got its about time for it to start.

Thanks, I was hoping it was just something that could be adjusted or replaced externally.

As my friend recently said about my car,

"It's at about the age where rednecks in big pick-up trucks start slamming into it."

Actually had that happen with an authentic redneck and got the warm California welcome. Here's the trick. Have actual insurance to be legal but when you purposely slam into someone out of road rage show a fake insurance policy. Hey, I slowed down in front of a school with lots of kids - the guy had to "teach me a lesson." He tore off my front bumper and smashed the driver's side fender. In his defense, "who is this asshole slowing down in front of a busy school. He needs to be punished because I am so busy and important that I just can't slow down in front of a school." My insurance company went after him. Very clever and very california. My wife and I are pretty fed up with california on so many levels. Enough of my rant on the Golden State.

Any thoughts on how much a decent used MANUAL transmission would cost and where to get one in the San Francisco Bay / Sacramento area?

What years / models would bolt onto my 1995 2.2 BK engine?

Any ideas on how many hours I would have to pay my mechanic to drop the engine and replace the transmission and get everything adjusted properly?

Thanks guys. Your help and advice is invaluable!

Any manual trans bolted to a 2.2 would work.

Just for fun, I would check the engine and trans mounts just to make sure they are in decent condition. A seriously bad engIne mount can cause the trans to pop out of gear
