If you're ok with the fact that you just spent $500 on coilovers then I say do it. I have a friend in town with those on his Bugeye and honestly they're really not any worse feeling then any other coilover I've driven on.

I plan on buying a set of these in the future because I refuse to spend $1000's of dollars on suspension for a $3000 car. I don't race, track, rally, or beat on my car so I really don't feel I have any need to be worried. They'll slam my car and that's all I want them for.

well i auto-x and want to make sure nothings going to break because i know you get what you pay for with cars

also these are for 2nd gen impreza (02-03 i believe) and i have a first gen (2000) so would these even work right or do i have to get a set specifically for my car. i figured you can use struts from an 02 wrx so these should work.

Here's the deal - a coilover system can be used on many different cars simply because they're not having to match struts with different springs. All they have to do is make sure the system bolts in with a minimum of fuss.

This set isn't considered a China-knockoff - the company is actually based in the USA:
http://www.racelandus.com/t-about.aspx

And the owner, Hendrik Blok, is a legitimate racer:

It might also be cheaper to buy direct too:

Not to be a dick, but if you Auto X and you want to cheap out on coils then maybe you should consider another hobby.

Think of it like this, if you were into guns would you buy cheap parts to fix one if it broke? No, because your life is at stake.

those are good coilovers for DD ars. I just installed a set a few months back on a friends scion. Not sure how much punishment they can take but everyone i know who has them say they are fine. U can pick up a decent set of K-Sport's for cheap. When i bought them for my 97GT wagon, i spent 900 bucks and i smashed those things hard around corners. BUt, like you said, if you dont want to spend tons these are good for normal driving.

You can consider the ebay knockoff / no name brands to be a disposable item.

You may get 1.2.3.4 years of use... but when it comes time to rebuild and re-valve them good luck finding someone whos going to tackle that.

If you want a cheap way to have coilovers these are fine but down the road when clunking, rubbing, rattling starts just understand that there was a reason they were sold for $500.

I learned my lesson when I bought Megan Coilovers.. even with a somewhat trusted source their company policy is ridiculous

Either way.. dont expect longevity from ebay coils...

but cant fork out $800 for a nice set of megans

nice? megan is far from a respected suspension manufacturer

thats why i posted it on here first because i know that cheaper options are usually the worst. aren't megan coilovers supposed to be good? everyone is riding on them it seems

because even megans are dirt cheap when it comes to good coilovers...

megan may be getting more respect on the whole as a company, but when they came out a few years back, there were considered little more than cheap ebay crap...

on the other hand i went with a lesser known company (omnipower) back in 2004 when i bought coilovers for my teg (for the tune of about $650), and i don't really have a complain about them to this day after 7 years and about 60,000 miles...

Take anything you read on Nasioc with a grain of salt. Most of the people there who hate on "cheap" products have no real first hand experiences with the product to make a judgement and speak purely out of their ass.

The guy in the link you posted found out it was the trunk springs, not the coilovers.

I'm not saying they're the best in the world, because they're not. They are what they are. Some people just want to slam their car, and that's what they're good at. If you plan on tracking (or already do) I wouldn't touch them. They're not going to compete with higher end coils, or even a decent spring/strut combo.

If they were awesome on the track, you'd know more about them because everyone would be using them.

Personally I'd just get some springs on and spend the money on a better set of tires for auto-x. Or brakes. Or swaybars.

But let's keep the discussion to THIS particular brand of coilover - Raceland USA.

From what I read on their site, their system is NOT recommended for daily driving - race or show only. It also says that they don't recommend driving their system in very dusty or dirty conditions.

So, I wouldn't buy them. I'm the kind of guy that wants to put something on a car, have it work and not have to mess with it for years.

I don't think theirs a coilover system in existence that is designed for daily driving, they're all built with racing in mind. I'm also 99% sure that excessive dust/dirt are bad for any suspension set up.

I've read quite a few reviews of these in my VW days and most people speak highly of them, and the company. I remember one specific thread (wish I could find a link) where someone had one break and said their customer service was outstanding and they were more then happy to send him a replacement as long as he sent the old one back so they could investigate the failure.

Don't get me wrong guys, I'm not Racelands BFF and I'm not plugging their product (although it may seem like that). What I'm trying to say is basically, don't knock it till you've tried it. I've been using various Megan parts on different cars for years and I've never once had an issue with something failing.

Haha you're telling me! My car is my daily and I need it to last so I never beat on it. I avoid potholes, don't speed and hardly ever go off road and when I do it's very short lived. That's why I honestly think they'd be perfect for someone like me who's only looking to achieve stance from them.

Hold up, are you talking about Megan products or Raceland? If you check my post above I already referenced that Raceland had a pretty decent background. But coilover systems do NOT come with dust boots like stock suspensions do. If you can pair a shock system with appropriate springs, you can drive daily on a coilover system provided that you understand your range of motion is severely limited and that you will have to either rebuild or rebuy within a 3 year period - less if you are harder on them.

The best coilover systems for daily driving are the ones that allow you to pick the spring rate you need - but those will cost more because they are tailored and not "one size fits all".

Both, or just cheap coils in general.

so basically if your track car is your dd as well, get cheap coilovers because nomatter price coilovers will fall to evil dust and dirt?
i dont track all the time like alot of autoxers, i tracked once and plan to do it again (maybe once or twice a year), all other abuse will be on the street and with pennsylvania DOT dumping salt on the road. around my area theres alot of dirt/rock on our roads and a river of salt in the winter so they would take abuse. maybe springs/struts would be a better option for annual road conditions.

I say cheap out if your DDin the car or showing it to be low... Rally, Auto-X, Racing then don't even think about it. On the subject of megans... I had a set 2 years old and needed a rebuild. Guess what? Every single shock was frozen solid on the lower body, had 2 different shops try to break ANY of them free with no luck. Bathed in PB for 2 days, heated them up, 5' breaker bar, NOTHING... Called Megan finally and after on the phone with them for a hour they told me am pretty much SOL and have to buy a new set. So eff that, stay away from Megan crap!

Sounds like you have a variety of terrain. You could always swap your suspensions around every spring/fall before the really bad weather hits.

Springs/Struts are much better for DD.

Some GD KYB's and some lowering springs will make you happy.

ALL coilovers need to be rebuilt before 50k miles. That's just the nature of their design. The better brands just do not fail as grandiosely as the lesser ones (eg a small leak vs. the rod busting through the strut body) in that time frame. If a company does not tell you that, then I wouldn't trust them for they don't even know or care to disclose the right information about their products.
