Yup, I finally got my wagon.

Don't worry though, our beloved Rio Red LGT will still be in the community because I traded it to another member (mshriver). It wasn't entirely easy to trade it, but I pulled the trigger because really felt like I had nothing invested into it because it's previous owner had done most of the mods. I'm a car guy, and although Wes did an awesome job on that car it just wasn't "mine". This car is pretty stock and a great platform to have a ton of fun with.

So here it is:
1997 Legacy GT Wagon (Swapped 2.2l)
5spd

Mods:
Sony HU
20% tint
RS 5 Spokes painted black
KYB AGX
Skunk2 Front Springs
05 STI Rear springs
Koji Modded JDM Headlights w/6k HID
L7 Grill
Tinted Tails
Tinted Fogs

Coming soon!
Wheel repaint (Taking suggestions on color)
Colors matched F&R lips and skirts
Interior refresh (Dye carpet, re-do door cards/headliner)

Future:
JDM Tails
Coils
Wheels
Stance.

Finally got around to getting some stuff done to the new car. I replaced both front inner tie rods, a knock sensor and put on some new goodies.

KYB AGX w/ 05 STI Springs front/Stock Sedan springs rear. (Level'd out the car very nicely! No more ass sag!)

Had one of the front strut bolts snap on me, man was that fun. Thankfully one of my friends was still up and let me come over and raid his parts car for a new one.

I was going to suggest a dark grey or even a hyper black. Something with a little pop.

I agree on the wheels, they need to pop out more. I might try a gunmetal, or possibly gold.

Good point.
Found a pic of a silver car with hyper black rims:

Or you could bounce for gun metallic.

Should put up the PN# for the Skunk 2 springs in case anyone wants to stance like you.

Looks like you need a lower offset wheel though now!

08-16-2011, 04:32 PM
I wish I could afford new wheels... I have high hopes though. One day she'll get the stance she truly deserves :D

The springs are off of an 04 GD chassis so I assume they'll fit 04+, but I'll go out in a bit and get the P/N off them to make sure.

I'm thinking about a cheapo paint job in the near future. I have access to a paint gun and some space just not sure how much paint I'm going to need. I'm looking at these kits on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Black-SATIN-ACRYL ... 171&sr=8-1 (http://www.amazon.com/Black-SATIN-ACRYLIC-LACQUER-Paint/dp/B001B3Y0GU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319646171&sr=8-1). Think that'd be enough paint to cover a wagon?

r3v_v3ng3
10-26-2011, 10:31 PM
Flat/satin black is very hard to spray specially if you want it done right. As far as how much your probably looking at about 1.5 quart per pass since you have a wagon meaning one coat on your car. It also depends on what kind of gun do you have. HVLP gun is best so you don't waste material. I paint car as a side job and i would suggest a single stage for your first paint job. When you start painting you'll understand why, you get fatigue fast and your working against time since the paint have a certain window of being catalyze.

single stage
cheap and easiest to do (shoot it and its already shiny) but harder to correct your mistake

base/clear
more expensive, double the work (shoot the base then clear) but easier to correct your mistake

depending on the mixing ratio of the paint you probably need about a gallon of paint, a little more if the color is transparent (ex. green, red, etc.)

Best advice is to get use to your gun. buy some cheap paint and get like a fender and shoot it. Learn your gun and how to adjust/fix when its not shooting right. Also go to your local auto paint store, i bet there is something else cheaper than online. I found that Napa have nice cheap paint, they came out pretty good

mycargoesvroom
10-26-2011, 11:05 PM
I think you're missing the point of a "cheap" paint job haha. I'm not expecting perfection, just looking for the experience of doing it really. I have a few friends locally who spray for a living who offered to give me a hand so if I feel like it's going to end tragically I'll just hand it over to them haha.

John, you should check out the DIY guide on the internet where the guy uses a roller... seriously. It looks amazing and I've been looking for a mechanically sound cheapo car that needs a paintjob to try it. Google "$50 roller paint job" to see.

mshriver
10-27-2011, 11:29 AM
^ No I looked into that before and its not as good as it sounds. You have extremely thick paint on your car and it could take forever to dry. Like weeks before its dry. Do some googling and youll see a lot of people dont recommend it. A better way to go about it is to use the same paint, but thin it down and spray it from a gun. I did it to my old beater and ended up spending $70 on paint and all the sand paper, tape, etc.

A gallon of generic rustoleum gloss black painted mine, and my friends legacy beaters

Before
http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/5780/dscn0304.jpg
After
http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/4673/36157443409177499518122.jpg
After a winters worth of abuse / no washing. Turned more of a semi gloss
http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/6718/dscn0617c.jpg

But I personally like the silver / black combo you have going on as apposed to a cheap black paintjob. The car I painted is the donor car for yours btw John haha

mycargoesvroom
10-27-2011, 11:52 AM
Thanks the Silver has grown on me a bit but not enough to keep it haha.

Most people I've seen roll Rustoleum on do thin it down quite a bit before hand (usually 50/50 with mineral spirits). I spent a good hour or two last night watching different techniques on youtube lol.
